After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Koffee Kosmo Roaster with Heat Gun as Alternative Heat Source

  • When I designed the central heat gun method ( I lost the drawing in a computer change ) I envisaged a Stailess Steel " turbo creating air deflector " just under the heat gun nozzil I will let out one small secret of the new KKTO design if it goes ahead - if not it will be published and be made available free to all If you search on the WWW for a Tornado Cyclone ( used in the car industry as an aftermarket accessory ) From memory it was invented by a Korean physicist and been around for couple of decades Attachment not found.
  • Hey KK, which diameter cyclone did you think would work?

The largest dia @ approx 60mm would suit the standard KKTO KK
  • I have adapted my KKTO to take the HG2300E Steinel Heat Gun, its the straight type of heat gun and is rated for 2300W, 50-600deg C. It has sliders for incremental adjustment of fan and heat, i was going to use a Cyclone Vortex to distribute heat better, but initial trials show it to be so far superior to Turbo Ovens as is that I probably wont bother. First iteration is a fair hack of a job on an old TO, but it works and proved the viability of the option. Materials required beside the $400 heat gun were a bit of AlFoil, some high temp silicone, a coat hanger and a bit of hose! [attachimg=1] [attachimg=2]
  • The setup is amazingly controllable with the sliders, easy to replicate my TO profiles and i reckon it would roast 1KG easy, the sliders make it a dream to adjust on the fly, [attachimg=1] It looks to me like the nozzle of the Steinel has some sort of vortex doover anyway, [attachimg=2]
  • The first batch looked OK, (apologies for the out of focus image!) [attachimg=1] [attachimg=2]
  • Very nice mate!  Now THAT'S a heat gun!
  • You will definitely do 1 KG It's been achieved several times repeatedly on bcspark's unit when we both got together on a few occasions It's also the same hexagon model unit I had in mind KK
