After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

WTB ponte vecchio lusso 2 group

I am looking to buy a Ponte vecchio lusso two group if any body is thinking of selling.

Thankyou.

  • A free bump for you Cadan Can any Crema members help KK
  • Hey Cadan, I have a mid-rebuild Rancilio Z9 Lever that may suit your needs, but it's not a Ponte Vecchio. If you do a quick Google, you may find about the cheapest price you can expect to buy one at anywhere - in fact, it's the only place in Australia you can buy one as they don't sell to other retailers. I'd say that if you buy a PV Lusso, they're lovely machines, but I hope you've made yourself aware of the drawbacks of them. Having said that, they're a lot of machine for the money, and a vintage lever in the same condition will cost you more. Hope you find something that suits. ~CH
  • Thanks for the bump up KK, Coffeehorse maybe you could send me some details and a photo of the Z9 please Thanks Cadan

I found a thread that CH started - here - http://www.bestcafes.com.au/forum/projects-rebuilds/rancilio-z9-le-(lever)-2gr-rebuildrestoration/msg19420/#msg19420 It's got some photos ect on the thread The only reason the machine on the link is not finished is because he acquired a single lever Z9 KK
  • Thanks KK, In other words, I'd need to seriously hustle to finish the rebuild ;). You'd probably be better off financially with a new ponte vecchio, too! Not least because they're lighter than 65kg so shipping to Perth will be less of an issue. My only concerns are: - Lusso looks nice but 'club' machines are not as wide as standard espresso machines. - This is especially true when you're pulling a lever - pulling back to back shots on a Lusso isn't as easy as on a full-size one. - Harder to resell the 'compact' machines as historically compact units have caused a lot of trouble.
  • From memory on discussion threads about the Ponte Vechio I believe that each group is for single cups e.g. Won't do a double shot Check with Lacehim as he had one KK
  • That's very true. The 48mm(?) group size means that while you can use a naked portafilter and triples, it's not designed for such, and it's very much suited to 7-12gr singles. But it is "cheap".

45mm baskets :) and I never used the singles.  The double holds about 14gms I think and it pulls a very nice coffee.  It does have a lower volume, maybe 30ml per double basket.  My new lever is 40ml, just a little more.  Steaming on it was great, and I personally think it's a great entry lever.  I think I did a whole sunshine coast gathering, pulled around 20 shots, steamed milk all on one boiler!  It's quiet, no pumps, no electrics to worry about either. :)  It's compact (go the 2 group), it's temperature stable and you can pull 2 coffees side by side, and steam milk for both, no big deal really. The only down side I found was the quality of the workmanship.  I had a few issues with the groups which finally got sorted but frustrating at times (issues related to Ponte Vecchio themselves, not my supplier on Australia). If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.  Jack at Sorrentina Coffee is the Australian supplier, and he's a great bloke to deal with.  I bought my Quick Mill Achilles off him to replace my Lusso.
  • The other downside was the development of your absolutely piss-poor dosing/tamping technique. ;) :D
  • Which, to be fair, was a quirk of the extremely forgiving Lusso pf/basket/group and quickly rectified on the Achille.
  • Well yes, the lusso is extremely forgiving on the technique part. Cadan, did you try contacting Jack?  He might even know of a few second hand units.  I certainly let him know about mine when I was upgrading. :)
