After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Nice tent Kelsey! Your braver than me mate! You'll have to tell me all about it when you get back. If your going past on your way home, remember to pop in and pick up your nakid handle!
So we had no rain overnight but high wind. The short sand pegs and cheap tensioners couldn't cope - after hammering them back in at 9pm, 11pm and 1am a final gust did for the entire front of the structure at 3am. So I just took the tarp down then, which wasn't a problem as it didn't rain again significantly. At least not where we were. However we've had to divert off Tin Can Bay road and drive to Maryborough to get home due to flooding.
That's awesome. I like the idea of a rooftop tent until you want to go somewhere but not pack up a base camp. That's where the camper trailer comes in. Only problem is you have to tow them. Sometimes no big deal, sometimes very big problem. Pros and cons to everything
When I was checking eBay for cheap poles and tension ears, I found these things: Tarp Buddies. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would've thought these were a very bad idea. It was my impression after dealing with extremely windy conditions this past weekend that having the tent poles call down was actually a good thing: given the way some of my poles and ropes let go, but not others, I suspect if the poles were solidly attached to the tarp that you'd wind up with a dangerous spiky metal javelin flapping around. Any thoughts?
