After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Roasting and roasting equipment - assistance sought
Hello all
I am seeking assistance or advice from any good coffee veterans, who may be able to help.
Firstly; I am looking to purchase a commercial coffee roaster.
So far, i have only seen one. Will Notaras at Roast Max Roasters is selling a 5kg gas fired drum roaster for $16,500 plus GST. And a 10kg gas fired drum roaster for $19,500 plus GST.
These are brand new machines imported from Turkey. They look good, but the price seems a little on
the steep side, possibly. I am still looking around to see what else is also available.
All i have at the moment is a 300 gram Gene Cafe home roaster, which i have only done a few basic roasts on.
I would dearly love to have a better understanding of the main basic principles of coffee roasting.
I am talking about things like 1st and 2nd crack. Understanding more about acidity, what beans are
high in acidity, what beans are low in acidity, etc.
What to look for in blending? What blends well with what, and why? That sort of thing.
My first question is this;
Can anyone recommend a good coffee roasting course? Or else, is anyone willing to offer advice and
hands on training in roasting and blending? Not expecting this for free?
Second question; Is anyone out there selling a good quality 5 or 10kg commercial roaster?
My preference would be to purchase a 10kg commercial roaster from someone, who would be willing
and able to include delivery, installation and training, along with the roaster.
I want to walk away with a thorough understanding of the fundamental principles relating to green bean
roasting, acidity and blending.
With that under my belt, i understand it will then be upto me to practice and get better.
Just as long as i have those fundamentals to really get myself started off on the right track.
