true but there are some like myself looking for a 2 to 3 kg cafe roaster for small batch single origins and these prices are (I believe feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) a lot less expensive than say a Diedrich, or a Giesen roaster of similar capacity any chance of some photos of your larger units Nigel? many thanks also for your detailed replies ACg

Honestly,  no one here in reality will be much interested in this roaster as from what I can gather, its pitched to and designed for industry. As such it will have the appropriate price tag that ensures....nobody here is actually interested except from an academic viewpoint. People love to talk about this stuff but when it comes to someone actually "doin' it", dont hold your breath.

I think you just confirmed fresh coffee's opinion. Except that while  writing this I see there is still interest from those at the commercial end of the spectrum. Pricing seems reasonable to me for commercial use, but well out my price range as a hobbyist.  I don't ride a 25k motorbike either - 100% cheapskate that I am

Hi, Appreciate for a home roaster the price might be a bit high and that is probably why most of our sales are for small cafes who are roasting their own beans.  There is little on the market in the Sample/Mini Roaster size and some are even more expensive than Stonka and in our opinion lower in their specifications. It is a highly engineered roaster that is also very tuneable and therefore is the price that it is. We are manufacturing in New Zealand - not China - to ensure the quality of engineering remains high. Thanks Nigel Stonka

Yes, and for the record my comment above was not at all intended to be facetious or obstructive, just calling a spade a spade. For my own, if I didnt already have and regularly use a 100 gram commercial sample roaster, I would be talking to you right now. All the best, Attilio.

I appreciate, understand and commend Stonka on that Nigel. I wasn't my intention to "knock" your product and certainly, I wish you and Stonka the best in the marketing and success of these roasters. Cheers, Kevin

I'm gunna go out on a limb here and say that NZ began its boutique roasting evolution approximately 20 yrs ago which according to my revoking is about ten years before Australia headed down the same path, and although I haven't been to ChCh for a few years now, I've constantly and consistently had great small batch coffee roasted in the South Island be it in Christchurch, Nelson, Dunedin, Wanaka, or even marvellous Greymouth! And I applaud Nigel's efforts for striking out in a relatively small but remarkably competitive marketplace, which has been well serviced by great espresso coffee for a long while, and which a remarkably well educated coffee public have justifiably high expectations of their coffee products And yes I am an expat kiwi and yes I have relatives all though the South Island!
