After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

By the look of the photos the collar is part of the housing So I would unscrew those 4 cap screws to remove You may also need to remove the grind size dial as well ( probably secured with a grub screw needing an Allan key ) KK
  • Did all of that, KK, but could not get it off. Been searching for options, but there is not a lot of info around on them. I will try again and post some pics of how far I get with it. thanks :) L

It may need to be prized open as it may have a gasket or coffee oils are working like glue
  • Thanks, KK... will give it another go when i am back on my feet ;)
  • Got it off! :) Ran a few kg of rice through it and it must have warmed/ loosened up the oils sufficiently to allow the collar to come off. So, now the top is off, and I have the bottom burr off ( almost needed a cold chisel...) Tips on removing the burr carrier? clock-wise/counter clockwise or just lift off after a drip- soak of Cafetto?? ;) L
  • I've no experience with these Lizzi but Derilex had a thread on his Eureka 64mm that would be worth a quick read: http://www.bestcafes.com.au/forum/grinders/the-grinder-cometh/msg26380/#msg26380 Post 26 shows pics of the burr plates
  • Thanks Brett, will have a peek ;)
  • new burrs are on order, but still would love to get the burr carrier off... Looking at the spindle it could just be tapered.... but not a great deal of space to try and lever it off. WD40 ( and patience) to the rescue, unless anyone has anything else to suggest.

Is it a left hand thread? Possible that you are trying to tighten it? Cafin8td
  • not tried anything yet, hence my question before:

  • Looking at the pic Lizzi I would say you need special tool # 12345 :D. Or the same stlye of tool used to change the cutting discs on angle grinders. A second tool to hold the 2 lugs sticking up ( could get away with a flat bar but something purpose built would be better - like a piece of timber with a saw cut in the bottom maybe)
  • ... then,  i will wait for BF to dismantle his...  >:D IF we need a special tool, once he gets his done, i might bribe him to let me borrow it  :thumb: ;) L
  • Nah. Invent , create, succeed -    or break
  • all for doing a girl-mod, D, but if BF can get the darn thing off his way, happy to follow ;)
  • Ok...,I gave up. Could not get the bottom burr carrier off, so cleaned underneath with the help of cut-off zip ties and Cafetto-wipes. Everything  looks spic and span now, new burrs fitted ( thank you, Coffeeparts ;) and put together again. Ran the first bag through... booodifool! No heat, just lovely ground coffee smell.  ^-^ Good for another many KG's. Happy Lizzi! ;) L

Brilliant Lizzi!  Where did you get this grinder if you don't mind me asking?
  • The Bay of Good Intentions ( and Evil Decisions ;)  ), Brett. We got her about a year ago for the commercial side of my coffee-fascination and ran her on a grind setting most suitable for the average Hardly Normal machine. She ran a tad hot, though, and i decided to tidy and tart her a bit. Shame about the bottom burr carrier, but i am comfortable that she is clean enough to produce good grinds again. ;) L
  • Ahhhh, but you still don't know how to get it off. That would drive me crazy. I would loose sleep over that.
  • Very true, D... and I am losing a tiny bit of  sleep over it.  :tearhair: However, I also know that BF will find a way to get it off, and then I will be able to do it as well  Hasten slowly... In all seriousness: I needed the grinder for tomorrow's shipment,  so function before beauty! ;) L
