The farm - a work in progress

We have been looking for a bit of land as a weekender / hobby farm. This one is 70 acres just north of Crows Nest, which is about 40 k's ish north of Toowoomba. In the video we are driving along the road boundary (obviously) and looking at the PDF we start at the top left of the screen and continue to the bottom right. The other end boundary is where the video stops - past the horses ( not sure who owns the horses either). Basically everything in the vid is part of the block.

Very cool! Big block!  Questions: Town water? Electricity? Water, creek, dam? Can I come out there and collect rock for lapidary?

More. 1st pic is the paddock where the horses are. That alone must be 10 acres cleared in yellow on the PDF 2nd pic is down the end of the block - top left in the PDF shown in pink 3rd pic looking back towards where the shed is. On the left of the pic is the base of the hill. There is the start of a gully in the middle of the pic which runs right down past the shed. There is a track on the left which follows the base of the hill which, when driven down reveals a ripper of a spot. about 5 acres of semi cleared land with lovely shade and views. This is where the coffee would go I reckon Marked on the PDF in blue.

So much land Brett. We have no idea what to do with it other than farm and sell native trees, have a crack at growing a lot of coffee and maybe build a cabin for romantic rumpy pumpy weekends for city folk  :D

Ok, scrap everything prior to this post. We have found and purchased a property in the Scenic Rim South West of Brisbane. Ripper of a spot adjacent to Cunninghams Gap at the Base of Spicers Peak. It's rather large at 113 acres but the majority of the block is steep hills and valleys. There is a creek that runs through the potential house site area that is permanent although in dry times it flows sub surface no more than 100 mm down. The scenery is just epic and one has to be on the ground to appreciate it fully. The house site area at the creek is about 3-4 acres which is perfectly manageable for weekend farmers like us. :D There are plenty of little flat-ish areas to grow coffee trees and other varieties. There are thousands of grass trees ( blackboys) on the block too some of which are easily over 3 mt high. Fantastic camping / day use areas up on top of the ridges with huge views either to Lake Moogerah or back to the Main Range National Park. We have rainforest sections at the upper end of the creek and some enormous rocks that would be well over 1000 T in weight. My Geologist father is in heaven.  A few pics with plenty more to follow

Yep for sure. Although the lack of power will limit on site equipment some what. Using the atomic will be fine while building but something large, gas fired and levery will be required  :thumb:

What a great prospect and series of projects for the new year! Lots of sunshine there; couple of panels, inverter...and anything is possible. Gas for the roaster. 2014 a ripper for you! Sadly, too many peeps around with no regard to environment. I too have a couple of projects...more later. J

Congrats. A better choice than the Crows Nest property by the looks of your photos and a view of some Google pics certainly reveals a charming corner of the world. Plenty of interesting terrain for nature lovers.  If you are considering growing coffee, would it be prone to frosts? However, you are in the granite belt so wine or grape growing might be a go. I see there is a place called Stacy's in Tregony that does accommodation. They must be hooked into the electricity grid. Is your property too far from it to do the same?

I'm no lapidarist but looking  at that  boulder in the second of D's photos, I'd say there is a better than average chance.

There is all sorts of odd stuff in the creek Brett.  Disticnt thunderegg possibilities too. A bit confusing too with large volcanics and basalts not where they should be and odd sandstones. More investigation required. :thumb:
