After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Movember 2013. time to think about men's health

That time of year again. Ocsober will soon be a distant memory, but Movember is upon us again.

Anyone who cares to help me raise funds can do so here:

https://www.movember.com/au/donate/payment/member_id/7482805/

Tbh, Even if you don't donate I will be just as happy if you at least stop and  think about the issues. Men are way less likely to see a doctor than women and we often adopt  the  'take a cup of cement and harden up' approach to health problems.

It usually  costs more and has less effective outcomes if problems are left untreated.

I may even post a  photo or two if I am mo-tivated enough.

  • Don't all rush at once. Surely somebody is willing to make a small donation? Sheeh! I am using a lot of energy here growing a mo to be proud of.
  • Personally I think about my health all the time.  I go to my doctor regularly even when I feel I'm probably wasting his time.  I think I look after myself, well I hope so anyway. I really don't think we need a whole month for it, seriously?  Men's health day would be fine enough. As you said "Men are way less likely to see a doctor than women", well I think blokes need to sort themselves out.  Maybe a wife grab your man by the you know what's and drag them down the doctors day might work better. Facial hair, well I love it (saves shaving) but how is going to fix the problem?  It generates money, but where does all the money raised go?

You might be able to grow a mo in a day, most of us take longer.

Male specific cancers and mental illness mainly. if you look at their website under 'funded programs' and then 'report cards' you can get more detail. Would include a link, but my  tablet is not cut/pasting properly for some reason. The point is valid though - plenty non-profit organisations collect money and spend most of it on internal admin. I generally support msf.org.au (medecins sans frontiers) Movember, for me, is mostly a fun way to raise awareness of often neglected issues using my face as the billboard.
  • I hope that all members support the Movember program It's a worthwhile cause KK
  • I,ve been growing my mo for the cause. My stepfather is in remission though he has to make a 4 hour trip each way every month to sort out his haematology and someta treatment. Being of a son of a b astardized asian decent, my mo is crap and looks more like a mouse that,s been thru a early chemotherapy session.
