After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Competitions on The Coffee Forum

edited April 2015 in Have your say
Firstly, a huge thank you to Brendon from Bean Green and Lacehim for our first competition of 2015.

My question to our members is this:  what could we offer in the way of competitions that won't break the bank but also get people posting.  There are many members lurking who've never posted and I'm in two minds as to whether we allow that; or, cull the database in the interest of data and manageability.

Forget the later part because if we run great competitions and interesting threads that should draw out some of our silent-types.

  • Maybe a set of espresso/latte/cappuccino cups. They can be picked up relatively cheap. Postage could be prohibitive though unless sent direct to the winner from wherever purchased. If that makes sense?

    A good idea CB!
  • If the Sponsor has accessories to offer up as a prize .. possibly goods to the value of $50 + free postage 2nd prize - 500g roasted or IKg green beans 3rd - 250g roasted or 500g green Just doing beans is simpler for at least the first few comps anyway .. free beans of your choice can't fail .. unless you don't drink coffee, and if that's the case .. what the hell are you doing on this forum to begin with  8)

Given we have only four sponsors and margins in this day and age are tight do we need more sponsors?  Bean Green and MyCuppa as well as Crema magazine have been very generous in the past with prizes etc.  But as well as their sponsorship fee they'll be out of pocket with every comp so, what's in it for them?  I suppose I'm wondering if there is a way members could also provide prizes.... Like for instance if we all went to our local lifeline and bought a piece of coffee paraphernalia, lifeline gets supported and we have as a forum a treasure trove of kitsch and desirable prizes.  I suppose this relies on members being philanthropic enough to see the forum survive and have some fun.  Our sponsors are the best in the business.  We know this because not all of them 'made it'!
