When is the best time to drink coffee during the day?

edited December 2015 in Have your say
Hey there,

When do you think is the best time to drink coffee during the day? I like my morning coffee. I don't need breakfast if I drink coffee in the morning, maybe this is why you can actually lose weight when drinking coffee.
That morning sip is just all for me. Definitely one of the top reasons to drink coffee, what about you?

  • Howdy Yeah .. nothing better to get you out of bed in the morning than knowing your first coffee won't happen until you get up and turn your coffee machine on. After the first mug sized latte ... I'm ready for my 2nd about an hour later. Usually that's it for me .. only occasionally I'll have a 3rd in the arvo or evening
  • The obvious answer from me is When ever I bloody well feel like it All hit the spot  KK
  • Hey there jimmyjim. Good on you for starting this thread.[emoji106] My limit is two to three full cups. A milk coffee like a long mac in the morning and a couple of espressos during the day. Being in the cafe industry, cupping half dozen or more shots of espressos are more for product consistency which doesnt count to my consumption, although if you,re considering caffeine absorption, then yes add a couple more espressos to the total.  [emoji477] [emoji477] [emoji3]
  • Melbourne Thur - 35 Fri - 36 Sat - 39 Sun - 35 The earlier in the day the better Back to 21 deg on Monday ... with some coffee catchup I'd reckon.

yes exactly but for me its usually early in the morning. If following up later, perhaps a late morning cuppa, and usually nothing from there on. Except if cupping, which could be anytime, there is usually no drinking coffee for pleasure for me anytime after lunch. This is then intersperced with good red wine in the late arvo / evening, most usually a shiraz but sometimes a good pinot noir, irrespective of the ambient temperature or foods to be eaten. Happy to have red wine with fish and not bothered in the slightest by what the literaty (or even the ducatisti) might think of that  ;D And I drink a *good* cup of tea and sometimes a bit of port after dinner....
  • Anyone is coffee'o'clock but with this heatwave it's iced coffee made in the blender with a shot of espresso, ice and sugar syrup. /melting.

A man after my own heart.  I had a lovely 2002 Coonawarra Cabernet with our chicken dinner tonight and now I think a Pedro Ximenez sherry in lieu of a port will finish nicely.  I only tend to drink herbal tea if it's late on a school-night and black tea when the coffee is such that I risk not finishing it. Edit: made a stellar iced coffee today with a shot of espresso (Congo), half shot of Maple Syrup, ice, equal parts iced water and milk to 300ml.

    Hahaha....what? No butter?  :stir
  • ^ ... crikey ... no teaspoon of nutella floating on top   ::)
  • No but I considered blending it with Kale, Wheatgerm and coconut butter.  :stir
  • I take mine with Nuttino. Nutella is overrated. [emoji13]
  • Ooooo that's like me.... I take mine with Promite because Vegemite is overrated!  I'm naturally going to move on to AussieMite!
  • At an ol' mates place a couple weeks ago .. and he has Promite. Wtf .. no Vegemite  .. how unAustralian. Then I tried some .. not bad after all. Saltiness is replaced with sweetness. Not sure I liked it enough to replace my Vegemite though. Back on the All-bran. Best fibre going around .. but what a rip at around $5.60 for only 500g of a waste product. Problem is .. none of the cheapie versions cut it in the taste stakes. I like a little malt with my cardboard.. and Kelloggs delivers. Pauls 'Farmhouse Gold' full-cream milk is out in a 1.5 ltr plastic bottle. Homogenised and un-homogenized .. which is what I'm now using in my coffee. Un-homogenized tastes like real milk .. and heaps nicer on cereal. Only seen it in Woolies .. and seems they're giving it a trial run with only a few bottles. $2.99 for the 1.5 as opposed to $2.05 in a 1ltr carton at Coles.

If you are Australia and over a certain age, there is no substitute for vegemite. Its the same story as plenty of other stuff....the character, flavour / saltiness, is what we all became accustomed to as children. Like people's favourite whiskey, and dare I say it.....their favourite smokes...its what you are accustomed to, and is why people from other countries dont get it (vegemite)....they didint grow up with it from an early age. All bran schmall bran. Biggest rip off this side of the black stump. No name raw oats...about $1.10 per 750 gram packet in the usual supermarkets. Add whatever flavour you wish on preparation (can be as simple as soaking in a bit of water for a few minutes, or as elaborate as you wish to turn into a "gourmet" breakfast sweet or savoury the sky's the limit), and probably get similar if not better roughage/fibre in the system !
  • Home brand raw Oats are my other choice for fibre ... along with some Psyllium husks if I feel like swallowing wet bird seed. All-bran, Oats, Weetbix or Edwards 7-grain bread toasted .. usually is how I roll. Butter (pref) or marg on toast with some sweet chilli cream cheese + sugar on the cereal. No added stuff like yoghurt, nuts, fruit .. although a spoonful of lecithin would be good ..... maybe one day? Like my coffee .. no chocolate, no hazelnut, no almond etc ......... coffee is meant to taste like coffee .. not a vanilla milkshake  :coffee2: I guess even putting milk & sugar in coffee is blasphemy to the purists .. like adding cola to a good whisky. Crikey ... shoulda started a 'What do you have for brekky thread'' ..... apart from the mandatory coffee.
  • Are you ready to shake you're collective heads in disbelief.... I've been having green smoothies on the way to work.  Ginger, pineapple, kale, nuts and yoghurt.  I know, I know.... I used to just have a cup of mixed nuts for breakfast but needed to mix it up.  thread away Mooney!

Green is good .. provided it ain't the type that has legs with a mouldy aroma.
  • Isn't it obvious? Morning is by far the best time to drink coffee.

How about - 'Whenever you feel like one?' Do I win a prize?  8) When not to have a milk coffee a) Straight after a curry. a meat casserole or stew. b) In the evening if the caffeine keeps you awake after hitting the sack. c) You've just had a chocolate milkshake or a fruit juice. d) Straight after eating seafood.. e) After eating a bowl of tomato soup. Tomatoes & milk just don't mix. Anyone heard of a Tomato milkshake? ..... Didn't think so.  ??? f) You've just eaten strawberries and ice-cream.
