How's the tea in Bangladesh? I thought it would be pretty good ? And how is the coffee traditionally served ? I can't imagine that there would be too many coffee machines on Bangladesh?

hey ACG - realise this is not quite the right thread, but how's QLD suiting you, now you've been up there for a while; anything you miss about Melbourne?

Oh yeah I miss Melbourne coffee a lot there's more diversity and  more speciality coffee options to choose from, plus competition is more fierce in Melbourne, so you're much more likely to get a better cup of Joe in a lot more run of the mill type places - here there is good coffee don't get me wrong but unless I want to drive for 40min there's only one or two places locally that I regularly go to Plus speciality coffee seems (except for a few places) to be synonymous with lighter roasts pushed just past green and I can not stand under-developed roasts A lot of the trade here is driven by tourists with very low retention rates in terms of return patronage so there's no real incentive for operators to maintain consistency or quality - and the few exceptions are like rare gems or exquisite exotic beasts Plus many baristas Ive observed in the so called better joints weigh and measure their shots seemingly without tasting them because if they did I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't be serving up the drivel that pasess for coffee in many places In terms of missing Melbourne I miss my friends and the coffee community and knowing that I could walk into literally dzs of establishments and either know the staff there or be recognised myself for the contributions that Ive made to the industry and be treated like royalty accordingly - which sounds like snobbery I know but I guess that it's the same thing as being a loyal regular at a cafe where the staff know your usual order and being treated as such and that's not such a bad thing Also the population base here is very small compared to Melbourne so many cafes struggle which is not good for the industry but by the same token many places do not seem to have a marked point of difference in terms of their service ethos or their offerings so from that perspective it's no wonder that they struggle On a positive note there is some wonderful coffee to be had here if you're willing to hunt it down and to travel, and the relatively undeveloped market means that there are plenty of opportunities here for the savvy operator - and to this extent I'm actively consulting for a number of cafes here who seem to be genuinely grateful for my insight and my expertise so from that perspective I'm glad to be of service and making an impact But generally speaking the climate is freaking amazing and the landscape / coastline is out of this world and there's probably more amazing beaches and natural waterways here in close proximity than anywhere else I can think of And it's a slower pace up here than the city for sure and the quality of life is amazing - I feel like I'm on holiday every single day even when I'm working!!!

Well... I'm on an acre and a half backing onto a bush block and we're on rainwater which is great for the coffee - plus we're only 20mins to the beach and we've got wallabies bounding through our back yard - so pretty idealic really !!! ;D

Where did you end up in Qld Pat, did you say you had family up on the sunny coast a while back.  If you ever need to come and play on the roasters or the slayer your more than welcome.  Just put a Proaster 1.5 in as a baby brother to the silverstreak for sample roasting, filter coffee and small batch for 90plus, COE etc (top shelf is to expensive to get wrong roasting 2kg, so now able to roast as little as 200 grams and doesn't hurt as much if you stuff up  :thumb:) C.

Yeah good of course. If you would like to get the taste of it then you have to drink.

We're in Doonan at the back of noosa not far from Eumundi - yeah we've got family up this way but it's mainly quality of life that we're after, which the coast has in bounds! Coffee journey has been an interesting one up here found a few places locally that I love and I'm working less than five minutes from home ! Where do I find you Cosmic? Would love to connect and check out you roasting setup, plus I'd love to have a play on the slayer!
