After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

like some lingerie with your coffee?

How long before the trend hits Australia?

  • Sounds great , but will the employer first look at qualifications or cup size (not the coffee holding type) and there are the obvious OH&S risks.
  • Here's their official website http://www.cowgirlsespresso.com/ they do have some very decorative jugs. ;)
  • Just checking out some earlier topics - have to say, this one's pretty good - check out the website [above]! -A :)
  • Hey Admin - I guess you'd have to say they've got a pretty unique positioning! dR :o
  • Agh what an abomination! Great for the Starbucks crowd maybe but if I saw a local cafe pull a gimmick like this I'd assume the coffee was bad and never go there.
  • On second thoughts, after viewing the pics on that site I've changed my mind!
  • Can there be any more idiotic, juvenile comments to be added to this thread....note all blokes, probably all over 35 with receding hairlines if not already bald!  Please only reply if previous description does not apply! L2L :P
  • Hello L2L Seeming I'am 32 not at all Idiotic and far from Juvenile but wait I know you want more - still have at least 99% of the hair I was born with I guess I can comment. :P I have got to say your post ranks as the worst added to date, Who called the fun police? :'(  If your not prepared to try it don't knock it .  :D Now scamper back to the monastery and say some hail mary's for all of us obviously depraved perverts. muwhahahaahahaa ;)
  • in the interests of good public relations i have removed my above comment even though i still think that its funny! and for the record, I believe that the correct response to the same is juvenile, not geriatric cheers, Pat
  • Hello One-a-day....nothing to do with fun police, just find it juvenile, much like pimply teenage boys hiding behind the toilet and sniggering over the playboy/penthouse that they've just knocked off from their older brothers.  Sorry, how old are you?   Not sure what you mean by "prepared to try it don't knock it".  Try what?  Being puerile and crass?   Why don't you try downloading these pictures and taking them to your place of work  and just for good measure hold them up  to your fellow workers (male and female) and go "phwhoa...take a look at these decorative jugs will ya!!!" and see how that goes down.  I can guarantee you that none of the women will find it even remotely funny, and at any large company you would  be reported for sexual harassment.  Also, I do you believe you have to be a man to enter a monastery, and yes I am a woman which could be the main reason I didn't find anything remotely funny with your posts.  Sorry to ruin your day! :PL2L
  • actually L2L - i found the pics fun, rather than super-sexy or erotic - are you sure you're not taking life a little too seriously? dR
  • DR....I'm sorry, but please qualify...how are these pictures "fun"?  I don't take life seriously at all, in fact I'm chuckling to myself at how easily men can be distracted simply by pictures of scantily clad women with big boobs and big smiles.  What can I say, must be the lack of blood to the brain as it is being directed elsewhere.  So, if these were pictures of your daughters or sisters you'd find them equally amusing and fun?  And am I to assume that if Starbucks were to staff their stores ah la "cowgirls" you'd all be lining up each day and bugger the coffee.  By the way, this thread will never end so long as the men are thinking with their penises rather than their brains.  Game on. L2L
  • I'm under 35 and got all my hair. So much for that theory then  :D But in all seriousness this is an extremely tacky way to market a coffee shop. For every new customer you get you'll piss off another one who actually likes good coffee, good atmosphere etc.
  • Well then L2L why make all the fuss and jump up and down , the bottom line is people have to earn a living and these clever women have found a unipue angle, why don't you mail them and tell them they are degrading women and setting back womens lib 20 years. And if this is a male dominated topic, leave it alone and stop shit stirring. See ya I have to go my penis is telling me I need a coffee
  • But in all seriousness this is an extremely tacky way to market a coffee shop. For every new customer you get you'll piss off another one who actually likes good coffee, good atmosphere etc.
Tacky, maybe. But a quick look at the website tells me that they are doing a thriving business, and further investigation reveals that a many of these cowgirl coffee destinations are relatively remotely located, thus minimising exposure to those who would not, or should not be interested. Furthermore, they are purposely located adjacent to trucking roots (now boys settle down), and they serve espresso coffee - which is somewhat of a rarity in the states. Leaving aside the lingerie for a moment (ahem...) I thing a coffee franchise, selling REAL coffee, targeted to truckies, despite how they market that, is a VERY GOOD IDEA. Also, the website goes to great lengths to show these woman in 'normal' aspects of their daily lives, by prominently displaying many photos of the employes outside of work, going about their everyday lives - which I think is to be applauded, and which I find to be far from dehumanising. I applaud the initiative and the innovation which managed to get these franchises off the ground in the first place, and I for one would like to see, not necessarily scantly clad woman serving coffee (not that I'm against that mind you), but greater initiative and innovation in the Australian coffee market place. Where are the trailblazers? Where are the risk-takers, willing to push the boundaries not only in service but in coffee standards. Of the 10,000 cafes and many coffee roasters in Melbourne, I can only think of perhaps a handful that push the boundaries, that take genuine risks with commercial consequences, in terms of setting the standard, raising the bar (Not that bar, the other one), and who are driven by the need to diversify, innovate, and to create something new and potentially superior to that which has gone before them. Bring on diversity in all its shapes and forms, I say, and if that means pushing the boundaries as to what's acceptable, then so much the better. And to anyone who thinks that sexual dynamics (not exploitation) has no place in the maket-place - I say wake up and smell the coffee. P
  • One-a-day, I never said that the cowgirls were degrading women and setting women's lib back, not at alll, I say all power to them.
  • Well said! Just thought i'd bring another thing i noticed at the website to everyone's attention.  A 32 ounce coffee.  That's 1Litre!!!!!  Could you imagine trying to down that before it went cold. And who the heck can drink a litre of milk in one sitting without being sick?!
  • Oh L2L, you poor, sad woman. dR
  • DR, still waiting on you to qualify "fun", you can't be lost for word can you.  Neither "poor" nor "sad", just living in the year 2007. L2L
  • L2L - you will no doubt be pleased to hear that we have moved on from the days of female emancipation. And you are more than welcome to visit my cafe in Melbourne, I think you will find that I am very much an equal opportunity employer for reasons which don't need to be stated. As for pushing the boundaries I'm not aware of too many other venues that serve a Single Origin coffee as their 'premium house blend.' However, I suggest for you own sake that you visit Brunetti's down the road, it may be more to your liking. Fondest Regards, Pat
  • It does sound like you need to lighten up L2L and hand in your "Fun Police" badge, Your male revenge scenarios range from humorous to down right wrong and all this over how people promote their business and make a living as viewed and commented by us forum members. AGC'S post was spot on and told it like it is, and you respond by talking trash and laying baseless assumptions, great work l2l . Remember if you don't like it stop reading and exposing yourself to this thread it obviously upsets you. And yes this is a public space so don't barge in all high and mighty flaming away, take a chill pill. Say hello to fred nile for me >:(
  • L2L -
probably all over 35 with receding hairlines if not already bald!
It seems like you're complaining about sexism here, but your post above sounds remarkably like ageism' - isn't this slightly hypocritical? -L
  • Lars, You are right so my apologies for that. L2L

Feel free to personal message me if you feel particularly hard done by, but I'd like to take this opportunity to remind all contributors that flaming - that is personal abuse directed at other contributors - will not be tolerated. And the use of profanity is not acceptable to get your message across. The personal message function is also there for a reason and I recommend it to all contributors, as an ideal way to express your concerns regarding content.
  • Hi this was the topic that caused a little controversy a few months ago... -A
