Hey again,
        Just curious to see if anyone has sampled the coffee from any of the restaraunts of the TV show? Do they have staff who know how to make a good coffee?

I have not been able to get into the perth restaraunt as the lines there are prohibitive and i dont particularly want to be on tv.

I would be interested to see how the Italians would have fared at Cucina Vera in sydney, such pride in their food, would it have been reflected in their coffee?

I can't speak for the Sydney Restaurant from MRR, but having been to a few Italian restaurants in Sydney, I can vouch for the fact that the quality and authenticity of the Italian food often stops before the espresso machine. Unfortunately, I find it difficult to associate quality food with quality coffee. I feel I have to go to a specialist coffee shop (which may incidentally sell food) to buy quality coffee. Thats a fair call, and I cant say I disagree either. IMHO its not all that hard to make a decent coffee, it could be considered hard to make an excellent coffee, but the average consumer would not be able to tell the difference anyway. If you already make great food, why not polish up you coffee making to complete the package. Sometimes where I work i get the feeling that the coffee comes second. It may be consumed in that order, but I make it to come first. regards mimmo

I don't know, but would it be fair to say that there would be more coffee consumed at an Italian restaurant than others? If so, would it not be appropriate to either train staff or have one specifically (but not solely) trained staff member to produce beautiful shots? Mimmo, if you work at a restaurant where you cap off a meal with fantastic coffee - let me know where... ;D Patrick

It may not be fair to say that more coffee would be consumed at italian restaraunts than others, but being Italian I understand the pride that they take in their food, wine and coffee, so i would expect (but am yet to find)an Italian restaraunt to want to produce excellent coffee. Where I work, there is me and one other bar person who have been employed for the better part of 5 years. I decided to make a change to the given coffee situation about a 3 months into starting work there, in order to get consistancy and quality out of the bar people. There are now two other bar people, who when I work with them do general bar duties and get shown how to make coffee at the begining and end of the shift when the conditions allow. Gradually I am getting them used to making bulk coffees at a stringent quality level, as they are already capable of making 1 or 2 good coffees after about 2months on the job. Its now the coordination of doing 10 things at once in order to have a smooth service that they muct master. Mimmo, unfortunately, I am not only a parochial Sydney boy, but generally confine my restaurant experience to those which are a short walk from home (call me a lazy bastard).....so it maybe some time before I make it to Perth, although I admit walking there would sure build up a hunger and thirst... :P

It sure would I too like cafes close to home, (I work about 3 min drive away) However supposedly the best coffee in Perth is actually in Fremantle, which is like 40mins from where I live, so that is a bit of a hike.(Perth isnt that big incase you didnt know, anything more than 10/15 mins is a hike for me :P ) If only there were more jobs in Perth.....I could stay here, i think my future is in sydney or melborne, so i will have to get used to a longer commute to work, unless of course I get rich quick and can afford to purchase an inner city apartment :P regards Mimmo

I have been to Perth once, and did see the three cars that constitute peak hour traffic there  :P If you wait a little longer, you won't need to be rich to afford an inner city apartment in Sydney. Thanks to some companies, there is a significant oversupply of poor quality inner city 'lifestyles' available. I have seen a number of people make a small fortune out of them..................................................................................................................................of course they started with a large fortune.   :P    Sorry, had to throw that one in

This is one thread that has quickly moved away from the topic. Great  ;D 8) I am one who could not make a comment about MRR, not ever having watched the show.  8) Did I miss anything???? Is it still going?? I did see a promo for it some time ago and had enough when I heard some bimbo talk with an arrogance that would be hard to beat. From the ratings survey it appears that the nation is over it big time  ;D Now Sydney real estate could be the go. Maybe we can find an apartment for Mimmo!!! JD

Interestingly, ratings for MRR have picked up, partly at the expense of it's [un]reality shows peers - the Blockhead & Big Bruva. The problem is, all these brain-dead-unimaginative-sociopathic pieces of tripe gain attention towards the end as bitchiness amongst the walking dead increase. I am not being self-righteous - I have fallen for the rubbish before. Now, Sydney property market - my educated opinion is wait for a little longer, the blood will certainly be on the streets as property invetors [sic] realise that property prices don't only go up!  :o Perhaps common sense may prevail and Mimmo can join us in the relaxed, unpretentious Harbour city   ;D I think I ate a cynic burger at lunch.... :P Patrick

I believe that the Honorable Bob Car has invested in property in Nu Zuland . I wonder if he had any inkling that young Egan would be putting forth such a budget. No, he would not have had! woops I answered my own question. Yep. I had my cynic hot dog for breakfast. JD PS, Bob if you are line could you tell us which are the best towns to invest in, in NZ?? Can you reccomend a good agent or broker OS.

I am looking at a move in mid 2006, lets hope the "bubble" bursts and inner city property prices plunge, unless many forum members own inner city real estate, in which case that wouldn't be good Inner city apartments in Perth are not really worth the money. I live in a house about 10 mins from the city by road, and rail. And the price of my house barely covers the cost of a low level apartment. I would prefer a back yard and a garage for less money, rather than being in the city were very little happens on a daily basis. regards mimmo support the perth restaraunt and give us sandgropers a place to go and eat!!

Well it looks like perths restaraunt does rule not a bad result IMHO, but i would be biased being from perth and all :P mimmo

mimmo congrats to you and WA I only saw about 3 minutes of the show as I was channel surfing. Boy o' boy the other bods, from where ever they were from looked a sad lot. Looked like pretty sore losers. Now I supose you can say that Perth does have at least one good food house. Have you eaten there yet. JD

Perth does have some really good restaraunts, especially in West Perth, and some in the suburbs. I am not a fan of Northbridge eateries (Where MRR is situated)its not that the food is bad, its the area. There are nightclubs and pubs all around northbridge with the associated drunkards, street people and general loosers all out to spoil your night. That is why i believe where I work is consistantly busy even on weeknights, people dont want to tackle the crowds, pay for parking, and deal with beggers. I work in a suburban cafe, close to a commercial area surrounded by heaps of units. I am yet to sample the fare at Room 19, the lines there to date have been too long, and i dont wish to wait in line for an hour to eat a meal As for places for coffee, I am yet to find a cafe that I deem makes a really good espresso, and couples it with an excellent atmosphere. Lots have the atmosphere, but not the coffee Mimmo
