After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Check out this link:

Then Scroll down the LHS of the screen to the bottom link, it's called "VIEWPOINT". That's it.

The writer has some interesting things to say about what
constitutes "specialty" coffee.

Specialty Coffee, what's specialty coffee?

  • Fresh, Perhaps 'specialty coffee' relates to coffee that hasn't been roasted to buggery or over extracted beyond recognition. It is therefore called specialty because it is so rare to find? One question - how many times can one re-'froth' milk? Cheers P
  • That's the point Patrick. The author of the article basically concludes that the definition of ***specialty coffee*** may well be whatever product any particular company can come up with, that satisfies the consumers need/demand. This is interesting because it means that if for example, you succumb to advertising campaigns starring semi naked people (both genders if you please) caught in "chic" poses, and as a consequence you demand a packet of their coffee, that happens to contain a great proportion of low quality coffee, that that lowqual stuff is somehow construed to be a ***specialty*** coffee. Wow! You can see why this term is confusing, and erroneous. Refroth milk??? No. You try...you will find the flavour changes, the milk loses its body and sweet flavour and the entire brew loses its balance. In all you get a thin, metallic tasting brew. Yuk. This is due to the milk breaking down. Cheers, FC.
  • I ask about the milk cause when I was getting a sandwich at lunch, I went to pay the girl who was operating the machine, and she put down the jug full of luvelly bubbly milk (looked like it had been heated many many times, topped up and then reheated) to take my cash. 'Shock & Awe' in the coffee business?  ??? P
  • Does any person have a definition as to what Specialty Coffee is?????
  • Its a good way for roasters to charge high prices for a average bag of coffee. To me the only special coffee is the one that you enjoy the most when its made.good luck OE
