After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Celebrate the Bean

edited January 1970 in Have your say
Hi guys - just a reminder about Celebrate the Bean in Melbourne on Sunday.

We'll have a small stand there, so if you're in the vicinity (Yarra River walk, Federation Square) make sure you come by!

  • Hi guys - just got back from Melbourne today from a very successful Celebrate the Bean festival on Sunday.
  • Admin Was a great weekend. Good to catch up with a number of 'Industry' persons. The B Comp was pretty 'hot' and congratulations to Hazel for a magnificent effort. All the finalists were in with a chance. 'Wow' how professional were they??? I think that a round of applause should go to all the contestants especially the finalists for their dedication and the fine effort. It was a great showcase of Australian Barista talent. A note of thanks is also due to AASCA for making it all possible and for putting the whole 'gig' on the road. John
  • Also, I think that we need to thank Gabby for being the MC of the the B Comp. I believe that Gabby did a great job. it would not have bean easy being up there for all that time.
  • Hey guys - have loaded a couple of pics from Celebrate on PICS/Fun stuff(just click on Menu bar at left)- there's a great one of our very own FC doing a sterling job on the Crema stand! Have been crazy since i got back, but will post some more this afternoon. By the way, anyone who was there and would like to send in their favourite shot - pse e-mail to [email protected] ciao Admin
  • HI GUYS - PICS NOW UP - CLICK ON PICS/FUN STUFF ON MENU BAR AT LEFT. ADMIN
  • Hello Admin. It was indeed good to catch up with you, John and others at the show....and by the way, I didn't mind manning YOUR (the Crema Mag) stand one little bit ;) ! Due to the short week (only 3 days here as Mon was Canberra Day Public Hol) I have not been around to write something up but I am surprised no one else did...so here's a quick synopsis. In comparison to the Sydney Aroma Festival, this was much smaller (physically). The stands were all lined up side by side on the banks of the Yarra. Coupled with a nice sunny day, the adjoining Chocolate Festival, Wine Festival, and the end marquee with band, music and live choir performances, this turned out to have a great "festival" atmosphere and was very well attended. The coffee stands were set up professionally, those manning them looked good, most seemd to take great care to produce best quality coffee, lots of it was served and sold by the cup as well as in the packet, and I think this was a real showcase event to be repeated. The various "raffles" of coffee brewing equipment put on by quite a few of the stand holders, made for serious interest by the punters who milled around busily (but please note...I didnt win anything this time around...bad planning I think...obviously didnt enter enough raffles enough times...). Some well known roasters were notable in their absence but given (I think) the successfull nature of this event, I wonder whether they will reconsider for next year. The "workshops" & Barista comp were interesting, you could spend a good half day out or more and and go home tired but happy. My line of thinking is that the smaller size of this festival (in comparison to Aroma) works in its flavour
  • any chance of geeting soem pics from the barista comp? had to leave early so didn't get to see the results... (thought i'd make a post cos we got told off for being coffee geeks and not using the forum ;D )
  • Hi Russell - yes, that shouldn't be a problem, and sorry for having a go at you at Celebrate... ;) i guess my only point was that we set up the forum as a (non-commercial) service for espresso lovers in Australia, and while the magazine itself is lifestyle (& a little lite for serious espresso people) we would be very happy to have the sort of discussions that take place on Coffee Geek (although I also don't begrudge Mark, who has done a fantastic job with the site)... ...anyway, back to the pics - there are about 15 of the winning presentation, although they're all pretty much in the same vein as the one posted here on PICS/Fun Stuff, although one or two with some pretty funny facial variants from the second & third place-getters as they watch the winner. Anyway, you'd be welcome to have use of them - just let me know if you want me to e-mail 4 or 5 of them through for you to take a look at. ciao -A
