After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Mazzer Mini and dosing issues.

edited January 1970 in Grinders
Bought my MM about 6 or 8 months ago, it's a pretty good grinder, I cant see myself upgrading any time in the future, if ever.
Now the point has been made "and rightly so" elsewhere, that the dosing mechanism has a tendency to throw to the left, I can imagine in a busy cafe, this characteristic would drive you crazy but I find in a domestic situation it's a non issue, simply slow your dose rate down a little and the grounds will drop vertically into the basket, however if you belong to the machine gun dosing brigade be prepared to modify the doser in some way or sloooow down a little. ;)

    1) Just thwack slower (please no funny thoughts)  ::) 2) make a small guide funnel from paper/plastic When I had a Mazzer I made an aluminium one I sent Lovey some of this aluminium sheet last year if you want some I can send you some as well, and you can shape it the way you want to KK

Thanks for the offer KK, I don't have any problems with the doser "I thwack slower"  happy using it as is. The reason I started the thread was as a heads up for those who feel it is an issue and would like to deal with it. :)
  • Wotb does the machine gun thwack but he insists that his thwack is so powerful that the grinds hits the wall and ends up coming down centrally ! I'm a bit gentler and usually that compensates for the grinds flying towards the left. We tried making funnels and other contraptions in the beginning (we've had our MM for about 5 years) but I couldn't stand how ugly the MM got so removed all of them  ;D
  • I made a funnel out of an ice cream container lid for my Super Jolly. Can barely see it sticking out, and solves the issue. I think I'll do one out of metal eventually.
  • The throwing to the left on my Robur at work was driving me mad so we made a funnel out of molded plastic and it works well but chokes if you try and dose for more than one coffee at a time - which is fine by me as I've set the grinder up for espresso pours only which means it doesn't get as much of a workout as the K10

KK was kind enough to send me some instructions as well as the al sheet. I've been very slack though, and I haven't made up the snout for my Macap yet  :-[
