After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • Hi johno, I think AM had one of these for a short while.  Not sure how silent they are but my K6 is built like a tank.  From memory they are 60mm burrs.  Let us know how it goes, and post up a few piccies when you get it.
  • Congrats on the upgrade texx Is this grinder for the shop or home ? Lust thinking out loud ? Was it you that said that you spend 18 hours at the shop KK
  • yeah mate still at the shop now as a matter ,never counted the hours but that would be real close .just finished mincing up a whole beef rump for burger patties the grinder is going to be a second one for the shop , not much good to me at home anyway we dont have electricity at home ( did i mention we live in the bush  ;D ;D). still waiting for the seller to give me his bank details so i can pay him for it . geez i hate waiting for anything. johno
  • Well if you get bored waiting my k6 is up for sale ;)
  • got the grinder today , needs a big clean up which i am doing now . the hopper is a whopper , it has a couple of small cracks in it and is missing the little dome bit that sits inside . so i am thinking i will just get a whole new hopper this bit for the middle should i would think be included in the new one , also think i will get the smaller hopper instead of the whopper hopper . oh yeah and on the ID tag on the back of the machine it is a k5 not k6 as i was lead to believe . where is the best place to get a new hopper is there anywhere in QLD or do i have to go across the border to mexico . johno
  • I've been told the k3 hopper fits and also the mini k3 hopper.  Both avail at coffeeparts.
  • :( A K5 is not a K6 I would be less than happy with that outcome if it was me buying. Small cracks around the base of the Compak hoppers are fairly normal unfortunately. My lightly used K10 came with them but that was 50kg ago and they haven't got any worse. If I was buying a new one even for the K10 I would seriously consider buying the short hoper even for commercial use.
  • Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the K5 is an inferior comparison to a K6 silent. I have a K5 and a dozen or more K6's (some silent and others auto). The K5 looks almost identical in size/dimensions (very difficult to pick the difference), but it has these very small burrs, almost similar (I have'nt checked for sure) to a K3. My K5 is very slow and quite noisy, even though it's had light usage (for that very reason, it stays in a box in the warehouse). If someone has sold you a K6 silent and you received a K5, in my mind that's a pretty big difference. It could be that the seller was not well informed, or had been told the info by another person. I would say it's akin to thinking you were getting a BMW M5 and then receiving an entry-level BMW 3-series. Still good cars, but....... Sorry, I hope I have'nt been too harsh in my comments - the K5 will be OK if you don't need speed as the motor is big (will last a while) and the doser system still has that great Compak action which is cleaner than a lot of other brands.
  • the burrs are 60mm OD .measured by me . no i am not after speed just a good second grinder that can do a good job thats all . it is dated 01/2005 still i have sent an email off to the seller see what his reply is . johno
  • stripped it down cleaned out a lot of very sticky gunk and am in the process of putting it back together.
  • yep been zapped quite a few times over the years ,best one threw me off the chair that was on the kitchen table ( read scaffold ) .i never knew about a thing called loop circuits back then , i do now though ;D ;D. by the way the packaging is worth a mention . shame i am not a stamp collector .came in 2 boxes , i never counted the stamps or added them up .
  • i am currently in talks with the seller about a small refund to compensate for the mix of of the grinder model . came from country victoria.
  • All the stamps are very colourful.  I wonder if they licked them all themselves and ended up with a glued tongue?  ;D Glad you are sorting it out texx.  The k5 should be okay, and if the hopper isn't too bad I would just live with it.  I couldn't justify the cost of adding a mini hopper at over $100 delivered myself. FYI if you are looking for parts you could try expobar, they are now the importers of Compak. Your 60mm burrs are only slightly smaller than the 63mm burrs in the K6, so that burrs shouldn't make a massive difference.
  • Sell the boxes as a collectors novelty item on eBay See what you can get for them KK
  • the K5 that wanted to be a k6 has taken up residence in its new home . still think i will be ordering a k3 hopper for it .
  • The big hopper gives it a certain presence  :) Just as a bit of prevention for down the track I have a feeling that burrs for the K5 may be a little hard to come by (think I have read it somewhere) compared to the others in the range. It might just pay you to check availability and if they are a problem get a set on order from Expobar or Coffeeparts.

yeah you may be right i checked the coffee parts site a few days ago and they are not listed there . but i think they may be the same as one a the wega grinders but not sure on that .
  • Wega was/is rebadged Compak's so the burrs should be a straight fit. Renamed your thead btw  ;)
  • Before you order them give Pedro at coffee parts a call.  Expobar might also have them or if you get stuck try cafeparts in us.  I've ordered from them before and postage was only $10 and took 2.5weeks.  Only place I could get some parts for my San Mario rebuild.
  • i have sent an email to coffee parts  ;)
