I will be the first to say that I drink mostly on special occasions and can be several months between drinks

But I appreciate 3 wonderful beverages and in this order

Good Whisky
Good Port

  • I've always wanted to try the Wild Turkey but I don't think I can, I'm gluten intolerant. Instead I drink port, I have a really nice bottle of Draytons 21yr old port, unfortunately I found out that you are supposed to drink port in the one go and not leave it so I'm guessing it's all alcohol now and no port (something like that anyway) and now that I've just found out that I can drink whiskey I think I might start with that too. I like red wine, not many white wines but do love Tyrrells Vat 1 :)
  • If I may quote Sinatra... "
  • For quite a few years courtesy of my Mother In-law I had a number of bottles of Mildara Pot Still 25yo Brandy. I do like Good Scotch and Cognac but this little Aussie Brandy is my all time favourite. Haven't seen any bottles of it for quite a while so I miss it and don't think you can get it any more.
  • I'm an I infrequent tippler myself but my drink of choice is useslly wine these days - white or red - but prefetably unoaked, so Italan reds often fit the bill,  as they tend to be stored in oak as opposed to aged in it. And dry Riesling and other aromatic whites - not a big fan of the NZ sauvignon blanc, unless it's a good one.  Spent too long working in high-end restaurants to be much of a fan of the cheap stuff, so my tastes tend to run a bit exy - but little and often - thats my motto ! P
  • Found a couple of delecious ports of late from the Toowoomba area Warrego Winery- Rum Distillery Port http://www.warregowines.com.au/wines/rumdistillery.html and Toowoomba Hills Estate Winery-  Rich Black. Highly recommend both
  • Playing with Gin at present for a change from my usual Scotch. Practicing "Barista skills" in the more broad Italian style. Current favourite 2/3 Gin 1/3 Cointreau and a squeeze of lemon. Nothing wrong with a good G&T either.

Hey there BF... have you had the pleasure of Hendrick's Gin yet? From Scotland with absolutely stunning aromatics. Whip up a G&T or dry Martinin and garnish with cucumber

I am going to grab a bottle as it by all accounts is worth it according to the ginclub coffee drinkers in Sydney. Will need to go to the big smoke of Warnambool to Dan Murphys I suspect as Gordans is about top shelf as it gets in town for Gin.
  • I should add that on very special occasions I like a drink called Drambuie I suppose it could be categorised as a liqueur Got a bottle many years ago and still have half left KK

Just got a taste for ; Wild Turkey American Honey over crushed Ice, and Captain Morgan's Spicy Gold over ice, with a "dash" of coke
I've got a friend [ex aussie ex-pat] who swears Makers Mark is absolutely the best bourbon - said he'd go to his grave on that one [& to my knowledge he probably has] - of course, I wouldn't know... A :)

Fair call. It's certainly up there with the best of the commercial mainstream bourbons but I would want to try some of the small batch bourbons. I'd challenge him to have a crack at Booker's Noe bourbon which is not for the faint-hearted (60% alcohol). Someone told me about a 'better drop' called Knob Creek (sounds like somewhere you might get stuck without a paddle  :o ) Drambuie is liqueur scotch KK and a nice drop too.

Timbo, I hope you place a safety sticker on your lever machines "Stay Alive - below 0.05" A man could do a serious injury to himself if he wasn't in 100% control of his faculties.

Strangely enough I'm drinking this right now as a Rusty Nail.  Half Dram, half Chives Regal couple of blocks of ice and... heaven!  I don't have any Cognac at the moment and crave some great Aussie Brandy... anyone know of any???  Mildara 25yo Pot Still is very hard to come by.
