After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Google+, Twitter and the slide of Facebook?

edited January 1970 in Off-topic
Anyone else been playing around with Google+ yet?

Must admit I quite like the platform, neat clean and still flexible to handle and group people into sections to either read about or talk to. Standard groupings of Friends, Family, Acquaintances plus you can add your own such as "Coffee"

No adds YET and best of all no tacky games and an so far an absence or teenage angst and who's done what to who :)

Twitter seems to have been the place speciality coffee chooses to chat until now over facebook. Going to be interesting to see if Google takes over from Twitter or just augments it?

Anyone wanting to have a look around PM me your email address and if I have any left I can send you a Google+ invite.

  • Didn't think that it was accessible at present but I'll send you mine anyway bf.
  • By invite only at present. I got an invite a week or so back so google is doing a slow ramp up rather than getting belted on opening day I guess  :)
  • Right I'm in and getting set up, I have no idea who some of you are in real life so if you see me feel free to add me, or not  :P
  • Such is the joys of G+ you get known for your real name  :) When we get around to upgrading this forum to version 2 I reckon it might be nice to have an dedicated spot to place at least out first names on the left. Home Barista works better than some others in respect to this and most people add a name. BF, Beanflying and also known as Tim and has been called a lot worse by some behind my back I am sure  ;)
  • :D shouldn't be too hard to know who I am since I'm in the minority, being female and all  ;D
  • I reckon the dead give away is the popper  ;)

First names?????? I don't want anyone to know my first name!  :D
  • Right, so it turns out you people are hard to stalk. I have beanflying added, but finding anyone else seems difficult :( *Edit. Ok, Shapeshifter is added.
  • After the server crash of yesterday we lost some chunks here so for what they are worth a summary, just read them bottom to top so they make sense  ;D Posted by: Koffee Kosmo Posted on: Today at 12:03:11 PM Insert Quote Quote from: beanflying on Today at 11:59:32 AM Sounds like you need to change your default language settings in Google. It can be set to whatever you like which will then preference your search results. Done that as well without success Unless I did it wrong KK Posted by: beanflying Posted on: Today at 11:59:32 AM Insert Quote Sounds like you need to change your default language settings in Google. Not so bad if the person has added an alias of their username on here or elsewhere G+ has a field for othernames  :)
  • Ahhh bf good idea, have added shapeshifter in the other names section :)
  • I'm having a few problems working out what is where and can't find othernames or even how to post anything other than a reply to  other  peoples comments. Will have a look tomorrow with google chrome rather than the android app. Hopefully it will make more sense.  So far unimpressed with the app,but the concept makes sense and it doesn't have 'twit' in the name...
  • You can add me if you like.  Changed my other names to include wotb, WotB.
  • i already tried google plus it looks pretty cool but still it needs more improvement so it wont fail
  • Anyone have a spare invite? I wouldn't mind having a look at it...

Just send me a PM with your email address and I will send you one. At this stage most people in my circle are coffeeheads or members here too. Traffic is still fairly light at this stage but it certainly has some advantages over Twitter and Facebook.
  • I've heard some pretty scary things about G+'s privacy policy, e.g. once you upload content it's theirs to do what they want with. Not sure I'll be handing my private life to anyone who holds that sort of a view!
  • Greg, Facebook is the same, any photos etc are theirs to use and even if you delete them they still have copies in their databases.
  • There is some interesting reading around on web copyright and ownership and external parties continued use. Basic principals are that you are the author and hold the copyright but you have also given ongoing publishing permission to the site owner in a lot of cases. This applies to forums too. I work on the theory never post in public what you aren't prepared to cop the flack or repercussions of (and I have  ;) )
