After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Those handles are very nice The Lusso Group Handles are smaller than the standard variety & very well matched with the pull down brew handles I am with you Lacehim It needs the steam knob done as well, and I would fancy a triangle shape for it One day I will find some unique timber so AM can be commissioned to make me some as well KK

Lacehim I recall reading a post where you said you couldn't work out how to take off the steam/hot water handles? On orphanespresso Dave and Barb sell spares and there's a piccie showing there's a little insert that covers the screw that holds them on - maybe you need to dig it out with a screwdriver. Sniff
Your right sniff, I posted up on HB becaues of all the lusso owners there, but not one reply. It was a bit disappointing really, first post and a dedicated lever forum too. Makes you value the Crema forums where at least someone will post to help you out or offer up ideas. I found the same OE photo and it seems they do just push in. I was trying to figure out how to get them out without damaging the plastic bits, but I suppose for the $10US from OE I might as well just drill a hole. They do seem to be a tight fit. When I next see AM I'm hoping to have a chat about them with him. The handles are excellent but steam/hw taps would just complete it. I do realise it might be quite hard for AM to do them though especially because they are small and the grain/strength might be an issue. Still worth a try though. The only minor issue I've had is that the handles come loose a little easier, probbaly because they are metal inserts rather than the stock plastic. I was thinking of just putting a few wraps of plumbers tape around the thread to give it a bit of grip.

Why not get AM to make the wooden ones bigger than the originals? I don't think it would upset the look of the Lusso if you have the same size/shape handles as say the ones on a Giotto...

Tape will work but it may come loose again You can also try some (just a drop or 2) of you wife's nail polish on the thread and that will work well The wooden steam knob can be made as a triangle shape and thats easier to make KK

That's my intention Sniff. I find the current ones are a bit hard to turn if they are tightened. I think a little bigger won't detract from the look.

True, I might ask AM for a few different designs to try, if he's willing.
Absolutely awesome looking stuff AM. I am always working with hardwood like kwila, ironbark, forrest reds etc... and always have offcuts. Is 100 x 100 too big to swing in the lathe ?
I need something larger for a special project Something in the vicinity of 500 X 500 X 60 thick I have 2 options Turned on a lathe or it can be cut and routed Where do I look in Brisbane for it to be made? KK
Maybe have a google for timber slabs brisbane ? 500 x 500 shouldn't be a problem but most slabs are thinner than 60 mm. There are a few sawmills out at Kalbar ( Boonah) that I have got slabs from before pretty cheap - some out of the bin too. Last trip out there I got a chunk of bluegum that was about 100 mm thick, 800 long and 400 wide ( free from the bin) Beautiful red colours.

Drool!!!! Lucky you. Now that could be a great bench for a machine with matching wooden AM stlye trimmings.
Would you believe I gave it to my parents. Bugger. Guess I'll get it back one day. KK, I think there is a place on Sherwood road at rocklea that sells slabs - in the street near the freedom servo. But, it flooded pretty big time there so I'm not sure what the situation is.
Just to keep this thread on topic here are some photos of my timber find And I will stop and see if the people with that huge felled redgum & ask to see if they will let me have some My only concern is that I may need a chainsaw Anyone got a chainsaw ? KK
If still green ;D Will have to treat the ends with wax and let it dry out for some time... The thin stuff for months but the bigger stuff for much longer. Can speed up the process a bit, but not by much. Do not want it to split SA has some good timber... Come on Admin, send some up here for me to play with ;D
Hey AM, if I wanted a Butchers' Block and had an arborist deliver me a nice fresh round hardwood trunk/slab say 200 thick, how do I dry it out and season it without it cracking? How long before I could use it also?
If I was going to be using as a butchers block, I would want 450 wide as a min, 600 ok and 900 ideal and about 1200 to 1400 high. If all you can get is green, then so be it. 1: Wax the underside and be aware it will make it slippery and then use plenty of mutton fat to season the top / working side. Or prep both sides the same with lots of mutton fat and let it sit for some time. Depending on how fresh the block is and how sappy; these will have the greatest impact on drying out and how soon you may want to be using. Some do try to dry in a low heat oven, but have not tried it my self. 2: Remember, a good SS brush and hard elbow grease is the best way to clean, so that surface will be scuffed and not smooth after a while.
OK I am or my Bezzera BZ40 is now woodinated (if that is a word) in the form of a wooden PF handle The story of how it came about, goes like this ??? I had to meet AM @ Veneziano Cafe to give him the 2.5 kg of green beans kindly given away my mycuppa And roasted one of his beans - Bolivia Caravani for him to try While at Veneziano we met & spoke to the head roaster & had the KKTO home roast assessed by him He was suitably impressed Anyway next thing I see is AM bringing a box of different wooden handles and said to me KK just pick one and its yours Whoa to many to choose but I went for classic (see photos) The first photo is the natural look without flash & the other 2 photos is with flash KK
Very nice KK. We are both lucky! AM really has a talent for making these up. They look great and they feel so much better than a bit of plastic in your hand.
AM that sounds very very dangerous and hence why I am willing to pay for my handle etc. As to the thread size, I've been trying all week to get the bloody handle off, I'm not strong enough no matter what I do, OH has tried a few times but still no go. He just had another go and still can't make it budge, he said he will put it in the vice tomorrow and try again.
Sorry champ, but despite my online handle I cannot budge this one either and I have no vice to use... I reckon the rubber grommet/space is helping it hold tight.
I would send Phil or Dave an email/message to see how they are attached so the whole thing isn't damaged but I doubt that they'll answer me lol the only downside of all the crap that went on.
PS. BORAT 123 You still interested in a custom handle or two for your referb
Thanks AM, the Bakelite handles that came with it are still in pretty good condition, so at the moment I'm thinking I'll probably keep the old ones on. cheers.
That silver circle/disc is or should be a removable cover See if it can be carefully prized out Once out Inside the handle there should be a hex shaped tube Get back to me if this is so KK
