After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

2nd hand ECM botticelli II?

A local rag has a classified for an ECM Botticelli II going for a price well south of $500.

The seller has put very little information down, but the reviews at CoffeeCrew and from a sale on a certain highbrow chartreuse forum seem to indicate this is quite a good machine.

I assume that provided it brews and steams it could be considered in working condition?

Mmmmm I wasn't really looking at second hand, but this could be tempting....

    Depends on age & condition.  They are similar in design to a silvia, ie single boiler thermostat temp control. If it's up north sunshine coast I might be able to take a look for ya.  :)

    Apparently it's five years old. They didn't bother polishing it for the photo, but it looks in decent condition for all that. Thanks for the offer Lacehim! I've emailed them asking where they are. Not sure I can do it tho... there's a BZ09 that I probably won't be allowed to buy, but I'm lusting after it anyway. ;)

    Quality of components are key for longevity Ask yourself these questions 1] Save now pay later with repairs 2] Pay for quality now and hardly have you hand in your wallet for its life time KK

    That's my thought also. Although ECM does have a good reputation, this machine's service history is unknown. The BZ09 on the other hand - serviced by Bezzera themselves.

    I have seen it in the flesh @ Barazi If it is the one I saw then it still has the protective plastic on some panels So although it used its probably a demo model But be prudent and ask in case I a wrong KK

    I've got one of these sitting on the shelf. Pretty much on par to the Silvia. Very well built. Can pull a great shot but suffers from the same temp swings as the Silvia. Steam is the same too BUT the arm is stuck in one position. This can be a pain depending on where the unit sits and the size of your jugs.. um milk jugs... er you know what I mean. The other small pain compared to the Silvia is the water container. To remove you have to pull a small handle on the top of the machine which lifts out the pipe. You then pull the contain forward. So if in average condition with no extras $500 seems a little high. You could probably get a Silvia for that. But if in great condition, sold through a reputable shop it is a good price. Good luck!

    Thanks for the info Bottom Line. The price turns out to be well south of the $500 mark, so it would seem that if it's in decent condition it could be a good buy. I'm still keen on a new machine, for warranty and tax reasons, but this machine is still nagging away in the back of my mind....

    you can still claim as a business expense, even if buying 2nd hand. Just not gst unless seller is registered.

    KK, AM (& Brett H, in case the gig falls through), I'm going to try to be at Bezzera for around 2.30 - 3.00pm Friday to check out some of their namesake machines and the Silvia. Just in case anyone decides to show up to say hello.....  8)

    I've found a lot of home-sellers (as opposed to businesses who deal regularly in used goods) are unable or unwilling to provide receipts - do you know of any 'receiptless' way of claiming? I usually hand all this stuff off to the accountant, so I've got no clue!.

    Yes it can be done A letter of sale from the previous owner, noting that its second hand goods & the cost Depending on the price and if its used for a business the accountant will then claim it as a depreciating asset or claim it in full (depending on the cost) I do this when I purchase used equipment for my business Anything under $50 one does not need a receipt but its good to have one for proof of purchase KK

    All our work is done from home. Well, not this week - I'm trialling an office for a few weeks. I don't like it. The upside of working from home is that we can legitimately claim the things we use as part of our work. Coffee is indeed vital to our work.

    Maybe not; but you need to take a break and to rest your wrists and eyes.  A Coffee is just part of good OWHS and making a good coffee is Staff development  :P
    In my business staff amenities covers espresso machine, grinder and green beans. I'm the only staff member ;D the roaster came at 'the right price' so could not be claimed.

    Just be aware "NOT" to claim rooms or parts of a home including electricity as a tax deduction Capital gains tax is then payable  :o if sold But check with your accountant KK
