After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

GINO ROSSI RR45 Automatic - Rebuild

edited January 1970 in Grinders
Hi All

Just scored one and the previous owner has taken a few short cuts...

At some stage a problem with the doser and or Magnet sensor and decided to cut it all out and just tapes things up...

Darwin theory should have kicked in..

Does any one have a picture or two OR a electrical diag of the cct for the Gino Rossi RR45 doser insides etc.

Would like to get it back to "spec" and or modify it correctly.  If not then it will be working but not as per the manufacturer.

Am waiting on new 240V curley cord and then can rewire and test...

This will now mean I have yet another BIG grinder and will need to offload one or more of my others...  Once I make a decision as to which ones to keep.

  • Good luck with that I'm waiting on a new hopper for mine as it was damaged in the mail!
  • Have you thought about moseying on down to the local instrument shop and checking out the curley guitar leads? Rgdz, A.

Any one got access to 2 core 240V curly cord ?
I know how to do make one The bush mechanics way KK

    Wrap and hair drier ???
Close  ::) It involves both heat and a 12 volt battery  ;) KK
  • AM did that contact I gave you work out to source the curly cord?
  • Hi AM, I own a few older CC45's that are installed in small cafes doing low kg's per week. I'm note entirely sure, but I suspect the  CC and RR would share some components. One of my cafe customers had this strange thing about wanting to ensure all beans from a bag were completely ground before filling with a new bag. The weirdest thing I've ever come across in a cafe environment - she would remove the hopper, turn the grinder upside down (yes, I'm not joking, she had muscles - a Russian woman) and tip anything out.........all because she did not have a little vacuum or brush. You can see where this is heading........after a couple of months, the sensor sitting on top of the doser (which looks like a cigarette butt), near the adjustment collar broke. I replaced it not knowing what caused it because she did not tell me how it was broken - I just assumed faulty components. After the second time, I tried to disable the sensor because the magnet in the hopper was also going missing from time to time. Then I found out about her doing the inverse routine - not very happy. On the CC45's, the sensor expects a magnet which is sized somewhere between a large golf ball and a small tennis ball, to be sitting in a 3-star plastic holder inside the hopper. It's must be important RE: the strength and size of the magnet and the sensor as I tried a few other combinations with limited success - occasional cutouts, until I begrudgingly bought the correct parts - then no further problems. Unfortunately, I did'nt spend enough time trying to work out how to bridge out the sensor - grinder failures tend to cause panic at the time!
  • What model is your AM?  A or S.
  • HI AM How's the rebuild project going. I access a old 2nd hand BOEMA (GINO ROSSI) RR45 grinder as well. Its super dirty, so I dissemble the part to clean it. How stupid I am I did not take a photo of which wire go to which one. I dont want to electrocute or burn this machine. Can any one give me a head up about this circuit board diagram or just a photo will be heaps help. Cheers Colin
  • For god's sake, be careful. My sister-in-law's lungs are an absolute mess after an electric shock on Christmas Eve. Took a week to manifest and she spent the new year in hospital.
  • No problem, AM. I end up just connect the power through the switch to the motor. It works fine now, did not see any trouble. Let me know if its inappropriate to post my photos. Cheers Colin very dirty everywhere, its only part of it P1050445.JPG That is the result after I open everything to clean, also to stupid to remember the connection P1050441.JPG End up just jump through all the circuit board, from power to switch to motor. I have checked the limit of switch and seems everything is fine. Now works for my EM6910 in my office P1060453.JPG
  • Sure does look good, hope the brew isn't 'shocking'. ;)
  • About brewing... Actually I have some question here again... The grinder was quite quiet (of course, still some noise). But after I disassemble, and re-assemble, I feel the flat burr was touch each other a bit and produce some "metal touch noise". I wonder if because the act that I did not put them back as exactly the same position, there will be some "running in" period? I use some supermarket bean (gift from friend who did not know what I am into now) to test the grind level. It seems alright. I wonder should I spend more supermarket bean to running in until the burr fit well? Cheers

Hi Colin The flat blade burrs can touch and not cause damage, as they have a raised ridge on each blade When that happens you have a true Zero point The cutting blades themselves don't touch as its built in to the design Different story if the burrs are conical - for these machines there is an external stop adjustment KK
  • Thanks KK, for the information that makes me feel more comfortable. Great thanks for AM for this informative typing. And I have to confess... I am the one do the DIY work.... P1060452.JPG I have removed everything...since I forgot all the connection. I was planing to move the magnetic safe to other place become a magnetic switch. I understand the risk, but I wonder this grinder is the only grinder I ever seen with this safety thingy (of course I did not see all the grinder around the world). I am really curious the necessary of all the complicated safety device. I have read similar protocol about reset the grinder setting, ( I kind of minor mod my Isomac professonale grinder too). Still appreciate all the important suggestion and experience. I wonder if the reason crapy coffee is bad for grinder and machine. Are they too greasy and oily? Because that is what happened to this grinder when I got it. The oily coffee bean built up a sticky layer between the hooper and burr. So weird there is such a space for them in this grinder. Cheers
