After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

KJM or Similar Blend.

I need a bit of help.  :)

I would like to try a blend similar to the KJM blend, however, seeing as the highest percentage of the beans used in the KJM is the Ethiopian xxxx and I have four different Ethiopians and I was wondering what you folks would consider to be the best bean to use in this blend. I have...
Ethiopian 'Blue Horse' Harrar Gr4, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, Ethiopian Ghimbi, and Ethiopian Harrar Longberry.

    Sorry Divey I have never made this blend so could not advise If you asked me to blend something for you with beans what you have - then thats another question I personally prefer the Ethiopian Harrar over the Yerg as a single origin KK

    That would be a tad embarrassing.  :-[ I've gone a little overboard with this coffee roasting caper and have waaay too much in the way of varieties. I have just had a count and I have 33 different coffees. I've tried the whole lot as single origins and now wish to do some blending. I thought I would start with  KJM's blend as so many people rave about it over on that other forum. If you wish to help me, I am prepared to list the coffees that I have.

    Ooo yes... a show and tell. I've been running down my stash and will soon only occupy one filing cabinet draw of beans.  I'll do a beangrean order today or tomorrow for the holidays but only some basic blend essentials: Blue Mountain, Kopi Luwok etc.  :rofl:  Has anyone actually done a Black Books Luxury Pie blend?  Does anyone know what I mean??  :pan

    Hi Divey, you've tried the Yirg, I usually use Harrar with the KJM blend, either the Blue Horse or my favourite Longberry, I've also tried the Ghimbi with good results. The beauty of this blend is if you substitute one component with a similar bean it doesn't seem to change the outcome drastically, Kev put a lot of work into developing this blend and it produces consistently good results.

    Yep, went the Yirgacheffe. I'll tell you what, it smells fantastic this morning. And another thing, I have never had a coffee smell so good as soon as it was roasted.....really weird.
