After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

The man who was away.

edited January 1970 in Off-topic
Afternoon all, have been away for some time, bought a motor home a while back and Heather and I along with our 6 month Golden Lab Missy have been doing the grey nomad thing through Northern NSW and SW QLD.
Have just arrived in Newcastle and will be back home in Moonta next Sunday.
The trip was a great success, our intention was to escape the colder climate of SA for a while and the weather we encountered was great, certainly warmed the bones a little.
We're already planning our next trip, will probably head of within the next month or so.
Will post later about our coffee experiences on our travels.

Cheers all,

DB. :)

Hello there DB.  What an adventure!!  No doubt the camera had a work out also.  Can wait to read about your travels.
  • I,m envious.  :thumb: Would like to know how you are having your coffee as a grey nomad and what tools you are using to make that cuppa on the road. Gary at G
  • Ahh I am in a daydream and seeing the breaking waves on those beautiful beaches in my hometown of Newcastle Even though I have lived in Brisbane for 30 or so years I still remember fondly I wanna be a grey nomad but I am not grey yet  :thumb: KK

I'm only 27, and judging by my current hairiness, I'll never be grey. Can't go grey when you're bald :(
  • Nice one DB, I wondered where you had disappeared too.  I thought CS might have stolen you back! :) Glad you are enjoying the motor homing bit.  How did you find travelling with your dog?  Where camp sites welcoming with pets?  The in-laws have a motor home and love it, and tow a Suzuki Vitara behind.  They went on a 6 month trip right around Australia, loved it, and want to do it again.  Pity there has been a bout of illness in the family, but I'm sure when they get back on their feet they will be off again. Would love to hear where you've been, what you've learned about the world!
  • Morning all, still in Newcastle, leaving for SA on Thurs AM. The camera saw some use Brett, not as much as it should have, to tell the truth we just kicked back and relaxed, drove a bit, camped drank a reasonable amount of wine, white for H and red is my tipple of choice, and of course ate way more than we should have. Gary the coffee fix was via an Aeropress, ground a substantial quantity and stored it in valved bags, not ideal but better than instant, more about the coffee side of things later. Give it time KK, the grey will come, trust me. "Can't go grey when you're bald" Everything has an upside Richard, think of how much money you save, no hairdresser and not having to buy shampoo. ;) Still make the odd post over there Lacehim, I'm certainly not a regular, seems computers and phone have become far less important to me lately. Traveling with a dog not a problem for us, she's an excellent traveler and we tend to free camp mostly, much prefer the peace and quiet, campfires, fishing and such, stayed in a few pet friendly van parks (some better than others) when we were closer to large towns, fishing was a non event, more a case of drowning worms, very relaxing sitting back with a beer or glass of red in hand and no bloody fish to interrupt the peace and quiet. Will post pics later after we arrive home. DB. :)

No need to rush it J ! And it just goes to show there are lots more things to life than coffee forums.  :D
  • I really need to go and visit my mum in Newcastle It's been to long But it will have to be a quick flight there and back - not the leisurely way DB is traveling I hope you stopped in the Hunter Valley wine region to stock up and do a comparison with SA wines DB  :thumb: KK

Not much fun here at the moment KK, been raining all morning. Negative to wineries in the Hunter, we were pushing on the last leg, had an appointment to keep down here. Regardless, I have always had a high regard for some of the Hunter region wines. Sadly most of my wine purchases are through Woolworths nowadays, much cheaper than cellar door, particularly when you take advantage of the discount for 6 or more. :(
