After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Solis Maestro Plus

anyone know where I can buy one of these grinders?
www.wholelattelove.com ships to Australia, but says it voids all warranty as soon as it leaves the US.
surely there is some store over here that stocks them!
any help appreciated.

    i got it delivered on tuesday, and they sent me the Maestro and not the Maestro Plus! the ratings on coffeegeek.com actually favour the original Maestro.. so hopefully there isnt too much difference between the two.

    Howdy, I have found that Diamond C Services carry the Solis range... Thus I am looking to purchase a Maestro Plus and just wanting any feedback on the machine. I have read the reviews of the Maestro and the Maestro Plus and it appears that the Plus model improves on its predecessor to some degree. I have a Saeco Via Venezia, not the ideal machine, but has served well for the past 8 months and I have no wish to upgrade at this point. Any tips on howto dail in, or is it a taste and see affair? I think the price is $269 for the Plus, however I'd like to see what cash does to that. Cheers Fergus

    Hey matty, I'm in Melbourne, thanks for the info anyway. I've found a place locally that stocks them, just wondering if there is some others in Melbourne that also have them so I can find the best price etc. I am fairly confident, after consulting reviews etc, that this grinder will enable me to extract the best out of my Via Venezia... time will tell, I cannot afford a Rocky and cannot see any other grinder in this price range that is as highly praised...

    I have both. The Plus weighs about 5 pounds more than the regular Maestro. The plus has had some improvements to a couple of nylon parts that tended to break with the reg. maestro. There are still quirks - the Maestro series needs to be cleaned out weekly because coffee debris makes its way into the oddest places as a result of some small design flaws. Colin - coffeecrew.com

    The LUX grinder is a similar price and is readily available in Melbourne. It is a very good domestic grinder. Regardz, FC.

    Ok, After further searching/reading etc etc, I have decided that it will be worthwhile to save up for the Rocky. Looks like it will well outlast my Saeco Via Venezia and will be able to support a more expensive machine. Spare parts appear to be available from the web and the thing weighs 8kg's...

    Hehe, Don't think I can stretch to a Mazzer Mini ;). My car just blew a CV joint, so there goes a few hundred in getting the driveshafts rebuilt :(
