After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

WTB - 1KG Sample Roaster (purchase time towards end of year)

Much as I wish this was for me, it's for a friend with a local cafe.

He wants to get a roaster going out the front of the store and is looking around to purchase at the end of the year, so this is more an initial 'expression of interest' type post.

Plus I'm keen to help him out so I get a chance to play with a 'real' roaster every now and then! :D

  • Possibly the incorrect term in 'sample roaster' as most of them are designed to put out small sample sizes in the 1/2lb range. Much as I am not a huge fan of air roasting these sort of things lend them selves to shopfront wizardry and wow factor. These would suit the more novice roaster and or even general cafe staff operating while doing other thing in between. For a full 1kg drum then supervision, time and experience is needed. PICT0033.JPG
  • What's one of those Neuhaus one's go for BF?
  • Circa $20-22k from memory. There main benefit is set programs and walk away roasting so the economics can make sense for some (not for me ;) ) as you can set and forget roast. As to the original posting from Kelsey it is a similar situation I have found myself in kicking around the 1-3kg shop roaster options. I have in the short term (no shop) gone for a 1kg electric for home/extras while economically 2kg doesn't work and 3kg starts to make sense for a time to $ spent production question. These are some of the things that perhaps the target needs to consider carefully before deciding that 1kg is what is needed?
  • I'll no doubt be talking about this with him more over the coming months. Even tho he's owned cafes for a number of years I get the feeling that for whatever reason this one has stoked the passion that stated him down this path to begin with. And of course I'd be very interested in being able to play on one of these beauties myself.
  • Kelsey, Keep an eye on the one on ebay. It's a 10kg Has Garanti for sub $10k. If it doesn't sell, they might get desperate, and it's up in Toowoomba, and four years old.
  • I did see that. Looks spectacular.
  • If you havent already seen it, or the seller hasnt already PM'd you, take a look at the topic that is now directly above this, or click here: http://www.bestcafes.com.au/forum/classified-user-wtb-and-for-sale/for-sale-coffee-tech-2-kg-torrefattore/msg30224/?boardseen#new
  • Thanks Fresh Coffee - I did notice that and have alerted my friend. I suspect it's a little bigger than he's after, but boy would I love to convince him into it... if only so I could have a play around... :D
  • I dont expect a 1 kilo machine of similar type (drum batch roaster) would be any smaller or take up any less room....it will only vary a little in the size of the drum. I expect the pricing on the other hand will probably be less if your friend opts for a turkish made machine.
  • Worth mentioning here too Peter Wolff has a W1 Giesen for sale at present. Won't be cheap but it is in Brisbane and well worth getting to know him for your friend. 422687_349043271782533_1312369999_n.jpg

Garage?  Move the family into the garage!  Knock out all the internal walls and build a shrine to that baby!

lol! it looks stunning, all the giesen models look like they are built from parts used in a nuclear fallout shelter
  • for sure Brett, I'm so lucky I can do what I want inside, when we build a house or convert one, I'm having a room dedicated to coffee  ;D
