After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • You said it's "conical". I dont know anything about RH having a conical grinder...that of course doesnt mean they havent, just that I dont know anything about it or its capability! However, if you are mistaken and it is the small black RH with "flat" burrs that they sell for around 70 to 80 dollars, I am sorry to say you will have to buy another grinder. It (the cheap one I'm talking about) is NOT suitable. Amongst other things, the adjusting mechanism is not up to the task. If you need help with this, call me. Regardz, FC.
  • Remus: "the frothing is no differetn. it will come with practice and adapting to the new machine. my last machine i had down pat but i'm still adapting to the giotto. where to put the wand, (2 hole), and the speed with which it heats is so much faster you gotta be on your game !" I agree totally - I have had the Splendor for just over a week and I feel like I have never frothed milk before in my life. With the old Via Venezia, I was able to get reasonably good microfoam (taking about 90 seconds in the process). Now, it is either hot milk or massive bubbles! Practice will help, obviously. Patrick
  • Oh bollocks. Back to the coffee supply shop I go. They sold me Big Rusty saying it was the same as the Gaggia model, but cheaper.
  • On learning to froth milk - I was in a bookstore near my home one day, and a trainer from Allpress was in teaching the staff how to use the La Marzocco FB70 (sexy red machine). She was getting them to practise frothing milk by putting water in the jugs, to the level that you'd normally put milk. Then they'd basically practise the whole milk frothing routine, but with water - that way you're not wasting milk getting in all the practise. Other than that http://www.coffeegeek.com/guides this will take you to the milk frothing guide, as well as some other useful guides.
