After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
I have VIP people coming for a BBQ next Sunday I can easily impress with the food but what beer should I serve ?? Suggestions of good but not expensive beers please and they should be available in Brisbane Beer is to go with Lamb & Chicken on Rotisserie See recipe thread for the next request  KK
Hard one KK If they're VIP then they're more into wine more than beer so I'd play it safe and stick to something like : 1. Stella Artois (imported one) 2. Corona (good if it's hot and the ladies like it too) 3. Boags (good Aussie cred beer) 4. And a good light The more exotic ones tend to be an acquired taste and or full bodied ( eg wheat beer) that not everyone appreciates, you want something that theyve probably had before and one that speaks for itself without the need for you to talk them up And of course goes down easy Oh and not VB or XXXX .... They tend to send a yobbo message (there I said it) Seeya
Hi KK I agree a lot with Seeya. 1. Stella (good beer, also known as wife beater in Europe). Others that would fit in this taste league and not harsh are your usual Heineken, Peroni and Crownies. If I was to choose from those 4, Peroni wins. 2. Corona, Seeya summed it up spot on, a girly drink and will go down with ease. Ensure you have lemons or lime to drop into them. 3. Boags, Coopers or even Carlton Pure Blonde for weight watchers! 4. Always have a light beer, some people may be driving so don't underestimate having a good stock! Vino, if red keep it light like pino if hot or even a light cab merlot. Whites - I have no idea! RM will give those ideas! Bubbles, have a couple of bottles if the partners are comming. Best of all good luck with the entertaining
I find this time of year very exciting... The sun's starting to come out (Im in melb don't forget unlike you sunshine blessed Queenslanders). I'm always in DMs for a new beer to kick back with...i think that pepper jack and gage will be next on the sampling list...I've tried Sierra Nevada before... Nice but check out the price ! Before i hold a special bbq I prefer bringing home 1 or 2 new beers during the leadup and happy to write em off as I go but it's a big risk if you've got a BBQ and youre using a new beer on yor guests at your big event. I don't think KK's got that much time left to get his mouth around all our suggestions!!!
Due to excess Beer Appreciation last night until 5am this morning I will not be appreciating any for a few days I expect. The Liver is evil and must be punished :pan For KK, any of the above would be nice with the food and a light Beer for that sort of thing would make a lot of sense to include. Consider Grolsch in the mix too.
Hi KK, I used to entertain a lot like you are doing, when I lived in SA. I also had a charcoal grill, but preferred cooking on coals, as I had access to a lot of timber. Lamb and chicken was on the menu a lot. Beer always on hand: Boags - Tasty and easy to drink, well liked by many. Corona - especially when it got hot, and matched well with chicken. Though considered girly in the above posts, it was the preferred beer of many. Coopers Pale Ale - My friends and I grew up on Coopers, so we always have it, but many consider it a heavy beer, hence my preference for the first two. As the weather warms up, a perfect wine for barbecue (and any occasion really) is a light red of the rose style. Easily available: http://danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_900089/charles-melton-rose-of-virginia-roshttp://danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_117925/turkey-flat-ros My favourite is the Rockford's Alicante Bouchet, but that is cellar door only. The Charles Melton Winery is just up the road from the Rockford's winery, and their Rose is a delicious wine, sure to impress, and perfect for what you are serving.
I went and purchased Boags Premium Larger I had it a while back and it's very nice again this time around So I will keep it on ice and get another beer to have choice for the big day May even get a six pack of 2 suggestions from your replies , subject to availability KK
For something a tad different, XX is not bad (Dos Equis) - mexican and less naff than Sol or Corona. The Amber has a bit of body to it, but can still be served with Lime. Pepperjack aint bad. For barbecued food, something with a bit of bite to it would be good - a good quality Pils or an IPA. Not sure what is available up your way, but stick with a smaller craft brewery rather than one of the manufactured beers.
Latest sampling of the bunch (all about $4 ea)... Only one or two held my interests way after drinking, but if I had to choose, I would say that I'd probably buy Grand Ridge again out of this list. Although not in the pic I did try this - Coopers Premium Lager I was equally pleased with this (and cheaper) Even though I enjoy different beers, I still find that Lagers tend to suit my pallete most Next - Peroni Leggera trying to find a good mid-strength (hopefully I find that this doesn't turn out to be an oxymoron)
Not to pick on you specifically see ya, but I find this Australian term 'mid strength' odd and difficult to follow. A bit like asking for a mid strength coffee. As I understand it, the term is usually (always?) referring just to the alcohol content Some beers are stronger than others, they are what they are. A doppelbock will typically be stronger than a hefeweizen in most important respects. Often a darker beer is stronger flavored than a lighter beer, but light beers frequently have higher alcohol content. Brewing to a specific alcohol content, rather than respecting the ingredients just seems wrong. Edit: actually it is not just brewing to specific alcohol content, but consumers choosing based on alcohol content. Anyway, you should try some different ales as well as lagers. Grab a Belgian witbier such as hoegaarden. I am guessing that will suit your palate better than some of the other ale styles.
Hi UNM In relation to the mid-strength, I agree, that's why I'm looking around for a <4% beer that actually tastes of something. The reason for looking is purely from an incarceration perspective. I don't usually go for lights but the downside of this is that at bbqs (if driving) you cant keep knocking heavy's back for obvious reasons ....and find you end up finishing the day on soft drink with the kids ! For these occasions the 3-4%'s do there job, albeit most do it at the expense of taste.
If driving, cascade light is my usual choice. Otherwise, I moderate beer input based on effects. Since most beer I drink is in the 4-6 percent range, not really a good mix with driving after - can't text as smoothly while driving if I had a few :pan
I've recently discovered little creatures "Rogers". It's a mid strength at 3.5% which is 1 standard drink. It is surprisingly good for a lighter beer, same goes for coopers mid ale
Although after yesterday's trip to Mildura (I had to pick a 45 degree day!!) I am enjoying some pale ale as we speak. The brewery up there is well worth a visit
Yep Rogers is up there - the best so far but buying a slab is still on the pricey side. Ive heard a lot of good things about the Mildura Sun Light and I've been trying Dan's for it but they seem to stock their others in the range but not the mid So in the meantime my fridge has been stocked lately with the Coopers Mild Ale as it poses really good value - can get a bit cloudy so you have to pour slowly to avoid the floaties at the end
I got a 6 pack of coopers mild for $12, pretty happy with that. I've found a place selling Rogers for $15, though the guys an idiot and can never seem to work out the slab price. I didn't try the mildura light last night. I was there on the company dollar so it was Pints of heavy all the way

We seriously need a Like 'bloody love' button :thumb:
Sat down with my oldest (and for many, many years closest) friend yesterday after not seeing him for about five years. He's been living and working in London with his wife for the last decade or so. Pulled out a six pack of one of my favorites - Burleigh Brewing Co "The Hef". Went down a treat.
