After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Grouphead cleaning brush

edited January 1970 in Have your say
What do you guys recommend?

the last one I bought was pretty rough, I would scrub between extractions and I ended up ripping the edges of the seal.

where to order it?  "the Bay"?

  • C-Man, Try our sponsor link here from Coffeeparts (a range of brushes to choose from):  http://www.coffeeparts.com.au/accessories/group-head-brushes Cheers Jonty
  • Thanks Jonty. so was I scrubbing too hard? should I just brush lightly? Should I be using a steam arm brush too?

That's exactly the one I use Jonty and it works great!  Just brush firmly enough to loosen grounds C-man.  If you go hard all you'll succeed in doing is pushing grounds under the sides of your seal or yes, tearing lighter seals.
  • I like the circular one that locks into the group. Although I dont bother with a brush at all. I just put the blind in my PF and run the machine while holding the PF below the group. Once the blind is full of water I jamb it ( precisely) up into the group 3 times ( refilling with water each time) which removes all the fines. Takes practice to get right but I like the results - bowl full of hot water and fines.
  • I have been usingthe Pallo for a while now and really like it. Replaceable heads available too! I also like how it has a scoop the right size for backflush detergent on the other end. Thanks, Ben

do you do that for every shot?
  • No way. Only at the end of the day :thumb: No one has ever accused me of being a clean freek :D. That reminds me, better do a backflush. Its been about a month I reckon.  1 kg per week, I reckon the BZ deserves a bit of lovin' :D

Yep!  Adding to that I backflush only once a week and chemically only once a month.  Less I'd I'm only making one or two coffees a day during heavy work times.
  • Just tried to post a vid of my fines removing but its too large. I'll youtube it tomorrow
  • but everyone brushes between shots right?
  • Similar to the others on average I brush weekly  & back flush water weekly and chemical fortnightly But in between shots I - rinse - then use a strong chux to get in and around the group - rinse again - lock and load again Its part of my routine now so it happens pretty quick. Definitely gentler on the seals and keeps it clean enough between brushes

    Not a chance  :D

    No, but I reckon I scratch so that's... something I s'pose!
  • You dont sharpen your chisel after every hammer strike do you C-Man ?
  •   Not sure if you're implying what I think you're implying
