After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Australian Int'l Coffee Awards

This was run by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria at the Melbourne Showgrounds [in conjunction with MICE2013]; list has just been released of winners.

Congrats to Belaroma, winner of Gold in Espresso Category and The Coffee Roaster [Queensland] for the Milk-based coffee category.

Special congrats also to forum members Jeff Carlini [MyCuppa] for his Bronze in both [ie Espresso, and Milk-based] and FC [Cosmorex] for his Bronze in the Milk-based and Espresso - Single Origin!

cheers

  • Thanks A. If anyone believes these type of competitions are a simple case of sending in a few packs of coffee so you can get a medal to use for marketing purposes, think again. The judges were strict and had a tendency to be quite "ruthless" in their assessments. A couple of my roaster colleagues did not score a medal and I was surprised at the feedback notes to the point I had to wonder "wow, was that my coffee or someone else's". FACT: The judges were not impressed with any of the Sustainable category entries (Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, Organic, UTZ) for both the Sustainable Espresso and Sustainable Single Origin Espresso - so they simply did not award any medals as the standard was not deemed to be of an International level. What does that mean for the sustainability programs I wonder ? Can of worms me thinks........
  • Some well deserved congratulations go to our sponsors Mycuppa and Cosmorex for there efforts KK
  • Thanks Guys, appreciate the comments and congrats to you too Jeff. WRT your comment Jeff "...I was surprised at the feedback notes to the point I had to wonder "wow, was that my coffee or someone else's"...." Me too ! That said however, very happy with my 3 x Bronzes: 2 x Blend - Milk Coffee category and 1 x SO Espresso categroy. especially as stated elswehere, these are volume stock coffees that get delivered day in and day out to cafe clients rather than small production specials. A.
  • Congrats FC. Where would I be able to purchase said award winning beans for my milk based drink?
