After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

What's that squealing noise?

G'day all,

I have a 2 group Bezzera 2000 That has just recently aquired a squealing noise that is coming from the left group.(internal somewhere) I first noticed it when backflushing. It only does it now and again, and only when  just finishing a shot or backflush. it will go away when i turn it on again.

Any thoughts?

    just a stab in the dark but when a machine is starving for water, the internal pump makes a squealing noise that starts off as silent but nearing the end of a pour it gets loud....... and it goes away when you do the next pour coz the water has caught up?? maybe? make sure your pressure gauge is showing the pressure it should check all ya water lines, filters etc make sure your getting good flow to the machine Ryan

    is the machine plumbed? if so you may have a kink in your hosing somewhere. it's a good thing to identify and to take care of straight away in order to avoid later complications ACG

    Thanks for the replies. Attilio i think you are closer to the mark as the noise seems to be coming from the solenoid area. ACG there doesnt seem to be any kinks. i have a mobile setup and the hose just sits in a container.floatcoffee.the noise doesnt seem to come from the pump. and it only happens with the left group. tomorrow i'll shorten the backflush times and see if that sorts it. thanks, Greg

    okay here's an update. I shortened  the backflush time and that did the job. there was a very short squeal at first but that was it. i suppose the pump being starved for water could still be possible as the pressure appears to have dropped from 10 to 9. i had'nt really noticed that before. is that pressure still ok? thanks. greg

    Yes that pressure will be ok. With both groups running the pressure drop probably wont be any less than down to 8 bars which should be fine. Ok so your pump is working without any assistance from the mains. Try the following to see if it may be weakening. While it's pumping a coffee, lift the water container up to the same height as the machine...while you watch the gauge.....and see if the indicated pressure varies....not that you would necessarily do anything about it if the pump is still delivering within the correct pressure range. But it could be an indication of things to come. Regardz, Attilio.

    I'll give that a try, thanks Attilio. Are you saying that without mains pressure the pump would be working harder than normal and could possibly be a sign of the pump on the way out or needing maintenance? Greg.
