After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Dirtworks 100km classic

edited January 1970 in Off-topic
Hello All
Will any one else be riding in the dirtworks 100k mountain bike race this May?
If so ,you can share my tent and gas burner if you bring the outdoors espresso machine  ;D

  • Sure... I'd love to come! I'm a mad keen cyclist, often cycling 50 or more ks per day. Does it bother you if I don't shower or shave? Pat
  • Cool , the more the merrier, see if enough forum members enter to form a team caffeine. If you google "dirtworks 100km classic" or "century of dirt" you should find the info its a long way of which leaves plenty of time to train
  • what about the national barista comps, any budding baristi out there thinking of entering? p
  • Do the comps have a "domestic home style" category where you have the added pressure of toddlers throwing vegemite toast at you while you brew up?
  • That's my my kinda comp - those little hands clutching at your elbow while you try to texture the milk.
  • Hi Grendel and welcome to the forum. Actually, my little girl, Kalani-Moana, has had to put up with my coffee making since she was only a couple of days old, and I wore her in a sling around my neck, while I fired up my trusty Rocky grinder, and made myself an espresso! Now, thankfully, she is used to the sound, and even tried to grab my coffee off of me! But at 9 months old, I think she is a bit too young. Perhaps I should start her off on the decaffe? Pat
  • Pat, you wait till you try running that grinder during their favourite show! You'll hear about it.  ;)
  • Actually, I already resort to placing a heavy duty folded tea towel over the grinder to dampen the noise! Pat
  • It's funny my 4yo doesn't like eating microfoam any more but ever since my 18mo could walk he comes running when I turn the stainless milk jug into a bell bashing the spoon around in it , he loves foamy milk. I think thats a good start and in winter I'll try him on hot choc. I don't think there will be coffee for them until they can make one for me. :D
  • I like your thinking there... p
  • Competition is 90% full so hurry up and get those last spots, and I'll see you there. What isn't fun about riding 100km over a very challenging course.  ;D
  • My bike is currently laid up at the bike shop receiving some minor repairs! But I am hanging to get back in the saddle!  Most days I ride between 40 to 50k (With perhaps an espresso break along the way!) Pat
  • What an event! My aim was to finish and I did in a not so spectacular time so I'am happy with that. There were only 2 mobile coffee vans down there with well over 1000 racers and event officials/helpers.
  • Hi OaD - well done! You might like to send some pics in - if you e-mail them in [[email protected]], will try and load them up on PICS/fun stuff for you. cheers -A
