After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

I would like to get into barista work I am interested in coffee, try to read as much as I can about it and can pick out a good coffee and recognise the quality points of good espresso, indeed I can work a machine properly and froth milk so its silky smooth. PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO BREAK INTO IT or does anyone know of any jobs?

    Ivan, As a cafe owner I want enthusiasm and passion over experience.  I can train anything into people except enthusiasm.   You will probably have to start front of house but let it be known that you want to be a barista.  Come in when you are not working and watch, learn and practice.  It wont take long until you are the head line act at a big cafe.   One last point:  most cafe owners have a very skewed view of coffe and are more interested in profit than quality. They often don't see the connection. Moral of the story:  pick about 3 - 4 cafes that do really great coffee, and ask the experts which ones they are and target them relentlessly. Ristretto  8)

    Hello ivan hope that you got some barista work,but let me give you some advise as well.PASSION is the key word here if you love this industry you will have to have lots of this,second listen watch and learn what an experienced barista will tell you and have lots of patience ask questions about anything you want to learn many people have different ideas about certain things you make up your own mind about this,with your own practise and dont give up, when you finally get customers drinking that second cup of coffee that you made them you will know that you are doing things right. good luck
