Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Nestle Flexing its Corporate Might

I was BigPonding recently and came upon a very interesting news story. I printed it for my records, but when I went back to BigPond the next day, the item had been deleted! It was titled "Copyright moves ignite coffee controversy", and it went something like this, I quote liberally from my hard copy,

"Nestles has registered the word decaf".

    Yeah well you can polish a turd but at the day its still a turd - what can they possibly hope to accomplish apart from further animosity? Many consumers have still not forgiven Nestle for supposedly selling dehydrated milk products in the 3rd world and promoting them as superior to mother's milk - with potential fatal consequences! I for one wouldn't be interested in any of their products even if they were giving them away! P

    Maybe nestle thought the country was americanized enough to be scared by that course of legal BS , we've still got a bit to go only 1 in 4 is obese over here.

    I say "Bring it on, Nestle!" We could start a fighting fund (I'll put in $100), and produce stickers with photo's of generic, but stylish ofcourse, long blacks in white cups and empty red cups. The stickers should be placed on all bags of coffee that we use. The first to be sued by Nestle wins! Perhaps a coffee addicted Solicitor from within the world of coffee would like to take the case, on a no-fee basis, as it is a humanitarian and civil liberty cause. The case would bring a lot of media attention, "Nestle vs the Little Coffee Shop Next to the Bakery just Down the Road, Turn Left at the Lights and You Can't Miss It". We need a Graphic Designer to do the stickers, maybe a big red circle with a line across it a'la Ghostbusters (oh no, I feel another lawsuit coming on!), a Printer to print them, and ofcourse a not media shy Solicitor to fight the good fight. Or, we could just ignore Nestle and its' little tantrums and carry on with life as normal. I think my way sounds like much more fun! Thanks for me, Rob.

    I'm a bit perplexed ... did a bit of research, & came up with this. The name's been owned & protected for the last 2 frickin decades by the Swiss giant, so why the recent media furore?     Sorry, link just posted didn't work - just tried it post-posting! Search IP Australia, a fed gov website, click on ATMOSS, and go from there. Nestle has owned the word DECAF in Oz for much longer than the article indicated, yet it's been seemingly liability-free in the market-place for anyone to use for the same amount of time (???)

    Head office had to ring a coffee consultant just to find out what a rosetta was. ;D

    Heard a rumour that Nestle management assigned their photocopy boy to ask the coffee consultant what a 'rosella' was, not a rosetta.  Now a certain multi-nat biscuit maker is sickin their legal hounds onto Nestle for poachin' their goddamned bird!!! Long live fafcaf

    There was a case similar to this concerning Vitoria coffee a few years ago. It was over the word Aurora. And Vitoria took no prisoners.
