After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • Breadmaker, palsonic pab-3600. Just picked up at side of road, with a note on top that it is working, despite broken plastic. Checked and it certainly kneads ok. dough cycle  is 6 min intermittent then 24 min constant. Might be good for a roaster matched up with a heat gun Located in melbourne south east
  • This is a 'what's mine is yours' from the receiver.  A huge shout out and massive thanks to Jonty who has brightened a pretty dark and dismal day here in BrisVegas.  I've been crook for a couple of days and the GP is concerned and has me booked to see specialists next week. Enter Jonty who not only sent me some contraband Choc that he'd arranged to purchase on my behalf and post to me, BUT he threw into the package a huge surprise... Two 250g zip lock valve bags with: Honduras Finca El Finto COE Kenya Gethumbwini Peaberry What a cheer up!  Forget sitting inside... It's off to the shed with a big smile on my dial!  Thank you so much Jonty.
  • Look after yourself Brett, hope it's not serious.

Hello Everyone, just a quick update.  I've had 3 blood tests, stool and urine tests and a colonoscopy and endoscopy in just the last week.  I am pleased to report that all the sinister stuff they were checking for (and one GP in paticular was preparing me for) has been given he all clear as of yesterday.  Phew! It seems I've had a really nasty virus that attacked my system and impaired my whole gastric system including my bowl, pancreas and basically ME!  On the mend now.  Thank you to all those who sent messages of support.  With two little kids at home I've said lots of prayers and had lots said for me.  Thank you all. Jonty, that Honduran is the first COE I've ever tried.  I roasted it on the 2nd and tried it yesterday.  The bean was a dream to roast and is so uniform, green and brown.  The nose is smoky with hints of cassis and cloves and this translated to the cup.  I'll play with some of the temps because I'm not certain I've got the best out of it.  Thank you so much again Jonty et al! :thumb:
  • Great news Brett, that's fantastic. Now go have a coffee.
  • Time to mellow out Brett. Awesome news.  :thumb:
  • Thanks guys...  :coffee2:
  • So... A little parcel arrived in the post today with 450g of peru ceja de selva estate greens.  I was going to post this in K's "I love you guys" thread but found my way here.  Thank you so very much to the kind Crema forum member from "God's own country" Victoria who has donated this and the postage.  I would have no way of trying this without your generosity and I'm really looking forward to it.  If I can ever return the favour please don't hesitate to ask!!
  • I have a 250g bag of giancarlo coffee (one of grinders premium brands) to give away. It is fresh (best before jan 2014), pre-ground for convenience and suitable for stovetop, espresso or plunger according to the pack. Any takers?
  • Brett- ya know how you say what is your is mine? I kinda had my eye on your little manual Pav lever so could you send it my way?

C-Man- ya know how I say what is yours is mine? I kinda had my eye on your $700 so you send that my way first  I bought that Pav off EBay after meeting the seller and firing it up then pulling a shot.  They are only good for two shots at a time before needing a cool-down and ordinarily I wouldn't have bothered myself with a flawed however iconic apparatus but the need to have a long-term play over-rode the head.  Much cheaper than a Ducati or an Alpha!
  • Where did you see the $700? I can't find it! what do you think about this old lever? http://coffeesnobs.com.au/coffee-hardware-sale/33441-fs-vintage-lever-clearout-baby-riviera.html
  • I can't see it but I know the machine in question.  They are very similar to the Pav... But... How much does he want for it?
  • when I click on the link it works he wants $400

Ah, that'd be it.  A La Cimbali micro lever in Brisbane sold for $250 in perfect working order off the bay only the other day.  I believe that they have boiler issues eventually but a bargain washed none the less.  That price is good if its only seals and it is in mint condition.
  • I was watching one for a potential refurb project and did some research. The cast aluminum boiler has major design flaws, particularly with the too-thin rim that corrodes and is difficult or impossible to repair.

Is that the La Cim you are taking about?  I so I believe you are correct and once the boiler goes, it's a write-off.  Someone who knows please correct me if I'm wrong.
  • I don't like the sound of that...

Yep, there was a micro cimbali on eBay in poor condition that I thought could be an interesting project. Plenty of parts available, but boilers are particularly vulnerable to corrosion and hard to replace. I'm keen on finding something similar at done point however.
  • Grimac 20/Eclisse compact. Was in a coffee cart. User forgot to strap it down...... Repaired the metal work. Wouldn't know unless you pulled it apart. Plastic side is repaired but you can see the break easily. Then went into another cart doing about 12kg a week. Has issues with the buttons. One or two don't work. Cannot get into the programming mode. Sometimes it starts pouring through the right group by itself. Sometimes the boiler will refill by itself when it shouldn't. Then was told that it shorted out a power point at the users home and shorted out at where she worked. Plugged into another point it started to work but only the left group. The right group started to work later in the day. Don't have the time to fix. You are free to take away my problem... Please note that it is a 15amp machine. It is twin element so if you did convert it would take a long time to heat up. Pickup in Warburton or Dandenong South. May be be able to deliver in the eastern suburbs.
