E-Bay

Looks like an interesting story.

But if it is true, a BES 900 could be had at an price  :D

  • I reckon the price is too steep for a machine that is potentially sans warranty.  You can get them for this price and cheaper from the majors if you haggle with the right staff member.
  • Price too high for my liking, for purchases that high I would perfer to buy from a retailer, or genuine online store.
  • $750.... tell 'im he's dreaming... :D. $755!
  • P.s nice pick up SS!  I remember in the old days when packages like SS' new Breville deal were going for well over $1600 and oh, who here is old enough to remember the free smart grinder controversy?  And yet you tell these stories to the young people and they wouldn't believe you! Luxury!
  • As someone else said to me, 'after waiting and waiting' :)  I think it was only a matter of time and fate stepped in and ta-da it's on my kitchen bench and I'm in love, stupid I know but I actually get excited about using it :)
  • I've managed to haggle down the price of the BES900 to 1100 at a good guys (some other good guys wont do it) as well as the smart grinder for $200 The thing that worries me is the machine dropping it's price in 2 months, i wouldnt be happy.
  • I happened to be standing in a shop here the other day and someone was saying how they bought one, together with the grinder for $1100 at Harvey Norman....
  • that is fantastic, thats the budget I had in mind for both. I might try my luck at a harvey norman. What is incredible is how can these retailers gouge on price with such impunity. arggh/ sorry. end rant.
  • argh, I hate you guys  . couldnt resist and ended up buying one.
  • Mind if we ask what you paid Java?
  • Not at all, and I believe we should do more of that to avoid getting ripped off. I paid $1100 for BES900 + BCG800 grinder. After the previous comment here in the thread and started calling every single harvey norman until I found one that would do the price. They don't have the machine in stock but they'll bring one in for me. Once I have it in my hands, i'll tell you what store as not to jinx it. It's incredible how prices vary between store and store of the same chain (even though they're franchises) some people wouldnt move below the RRP some others even got offended at me asking, some got closer, and one hit the spot. I'll update when I "hopefully" have it in my hands.
  • $1100 for a Smart Grinder and a Breville Dual Boiler is a seriously good price and potentially great value!  Was a 5 year warranty on the pair on offer?  If so, forget descaling and just take it back when it's broken for a new one.  WHAT AM I SAYING... let's all think of the environment, landfill environmental manufacturing requirements and hope they last a really long time!  Thanks for a great contribution Java!
  • Hi Brett. I was offered extended warranty. it's $160 for the 6 years alltogether for the 900 and 4 for the grinder (for some reason they can't do more than that on the grinder) all for $160 What i wanted was 5 years alltogether for both at %10 of the price ($110) i have some time until they get it in stock (hopefully not long) so i'll consider it.
  • Package $1100 + Extended Wty $110 = Total $1210 Cost of BDB & BSG over 4 years = $5.80 per week  ??? Good investment?... NO. Great investment?..... DEFINITELY!

Good math + good coffee = Great opportunity... Grab it!
  • thanks guys. Anyone knows whether breville themselves offer extended warranty?
  • I'm not sure. I think they offer a 2 year warranty. If i'm wrong then i'm sure someone can correct me. What machine do u have at the moment Java? Gary at G
  • breville's webpage says 2 year repair for bes900 and 2 year replacement for BCG800 doco in the box might differ though.
  • Hi Gary. sorry i didnt see your question before. I have a mokita combi. PS: Got a call from the sales guy at Harvey norman, he mentioned they'll get the machine this week, but there are no grinders available anywhere. he's happy to sell me the machine though. Other thing he mentioned was that he got in trouble for selling me the machine cheap and whether i could "help him" by providing a receipt of someone who bought it for that price somewhere else. kinda weird request, specially after he checked with his manager whether it was ok to do that price. Anyways, the sage will continue until I get the machine "hopefully" Interesting bit was when I negotiated the price, it was 1100 for both machine and grinder. the receipt came out at $850 for the BES. I wonder what'll happen now, since they can't sell me grinder..

Of course he's pretending to be in trouble and wants to back out.  He's been got at by someone who reads forums!  If you advertise your great price before getting it in your hot little hands they are going to back out cause chances are anyone who has interweb will demand the same deal.  More fool us for asking you also.  I hope to stand corrected but I doubt the deal will go through. I can't see them selling you a BDB for $850 but for your sake and their reputation hope I'm wrong.  It would be terrible advertising or them to welch on a deal given the 'us and them' dynamic the Australian public has with tall poppies/large retailers, but I can't see them setting themselves up to take a loss consistently.  Keep us updated.
  • So far as I can tell from what I am reading here, you have a twx invoice, already marked as paid, for the 900 at $850 plus balance for the smart grinder. Seems like they should honour  that. If they can't supply the grinder, you could wait, or claim reasonable compensation, or a refund. If they have already said they can supply the BDB, take it at the agreed price. If they require more money, get a written request. Good chance you can get it back with persistence. As for asking for a copy of a receipt, that is pretty normal, but done BEFORE agreeing to price match. Once you got a tax invoice, you have a contract.

Sorry, I have obviously mis-read something.  If money has changed hands then they must surely honour the deal exactly has UMN has stated.  Good post UMN!
  • after all the BS i got from the salesman over the phone I decided to go to HN. He wasn't there, so I asked to cancel the grinder from my order. Still waiting for the BES900. Can any of the cofee shop owners comment on the availability of the machine? That way I can argue with them on why the delay. Cheers
  • Judging by your price breakdown canceling the grinder will hurt their margins even more. At $250 they are making ood money on the grinder. At $850 they are practically giving you the machine for a very big discount o RRP.  Good luck, you may be the record holder for the cheapest BDB save the ones given out to PR people etc.  I wonder if any barista champs were gifted any BDBs?  Be interesting to have their take on the quality of shot capable from these things.  They areva lot cheaper than those NS behemoths for practice.
  • some good news in the BES900 saga. went to the store on the weekend and talked to the manager, he said he'll get me one from stock transfer this week. fingers crossed.
  • Aaww!! I came in here thinking there was a BES900 for me.     Gary at G
  • ok guys. awesome news! I'm the happy owner of a BES900!!!! just picked it up at the store Haven't tried it yet as I have no grinder, but i'll try to pick a smart grinder tomorrow from a HN.
  • Congrats JTH! So have you made your first cup yet? How was it? Have you tried a GG for the grinder, I got a cracker of a price from my local one... Oh, and what is your gauge reading?  :stir Marc
  • Congrats on the new Breville machine Keep us in the loop with a user report when you get the grinder and beans KK
