IPad 3

iPad 3 has landed and as a mate succinctly put it "crispness is off the charts." Very eye friendly but apart from that and a pretty awesome camera fairly comparable to V2.  Slightly quicker, noticeably and better sound for Skype.  I love windows and android but I'm yet to use anything that can match iPad one.  Come on wintel... Get ya finger out!

Will be interesting to see it in the flesh.  I've got an Ipad 2 and mate at work took delivery of his Ipad 3 yesterday (he also has a Ipad2)... Great machine, simple, my 2 & 4 yr old surf the pad like they are a 15yr old. Great apps for education and the key thing I have come to love with apple is they own the code and I dont run any virus software......

I am faced with a dilemma 1) Get a I Pad 3rd generation 2) Get an Asus Transformer Prime  I like both I just want to use it for web stuff (forums ect) , read a book or 3 and camera skype ect as the 3 main reasons I would own one Help me please before I just say that I will wait for the next model  :o KK

IPad 2will actually do that very well. Although the screen on 3 would make reading books easier. I still prefer the Kindle to iPad 2 for books.

Not sure. It can be had to get actual files across to the iPad, particularly media files that could otherwise be handled by iTunes. Instead, I use AirVideo - a small server runs on one of my machines and streams content  stored on my network to my iOS devices - even over 3G.

You MIGHT find a kindle fire, nook color or kobo vox does the job. Samsung Galaxy Tab also worth a look now that prices are dropping. Depends on the priority you place on books really (kindle probably easiest for those not wanting to get into techie stuff). Never used any of the above, but happy with my Samsung Galaxy phone - the internet support community is very active on the Galaxy range which gives them a longer life than many products. As for web stuff - not sure if Apple handles flash these days on iPad - I know it used to be an issue and they were working on it, but not sure of current status.

Nope, no flash on iPad - mainly because it's a horrible power suck. Normal sites shouldn't use flash anyway, for a plethora if reasons, but the lack is simply hastening its demise. Adobe threw the towel in a year ago and have given up trying to produce a CPU-efficient Flash for mobile devices. To anyone who's been in the design industry as long as I have, this should come as no surprise - they can't optimize their way out of a wet paper bag. Never have, never will. Just look at Postscript. They are now focussing on HTML, CSS and JavaScript technologies. Which they will no doubt stuff up just as badly.

I had a look at an ipad3 today.  Looks like an iPad!  :rofl: Better screen and better camera apart from that it was business as usual.  Maybe with extensive use you wil notice the performance diff and especially with Skype now that the display is better and sound output has been improved.  Doesn't appear to be a camera flash though like on the iPhone.  Some of the old ipad2 cases stil fit.  There is 5mm diff.  Jbhifi had stock.

I'm not sure it has much benefit if you don't have a Mac, but it's pretty damn useful if you do. All computers and devices sign in with the same credentials. It allows for some pretty nifty content-sharing seamlessly between devices.

I rang Chris from Barazi Bezzera as he uses Apple Mac for advice ect I was going to get a 32 gig wi fi unit and based on his advice I am now getting a 64 gig wi fi He said that he is also getting one and he may as well get one at the same time So it looks like we are getting the new generation Ipad 3 this afternoon or tomorrow from his regular Apple Mac supplier KK

Nice!  Black or white?  Our iPad 2 is white and I think I prefer that.  I'd love the black if they were black on the back.

An update on the eagerly awaited Ipad 3 As noted its 64 gig with Wifi only Chris at Barazi Bezzera has a good working relationship with a Mac supplier that supplies and services his business computer needs And that said I got a good price The only catch is - there is only one left and its black I can live with that  :thumb: Pick up this afternoon KK

Early first look & touch review Never owned a tablet before this my first one, but have looked at this against others before deciding Well the family voted for the Ipad for its simplicity - wife does not have a mobile phone, so simple " one application at a time operation"  was a deciding factor  Let me just say WOW on how crisp & clear the screen is I have yet to play Angry Birds and looking forward to it Next test is reading books Downloaded a free one for a quick test and its superb - the text is clearer and sharper than a book Next test was Skype  and one of the main reasons we got it Its not to bad video wise - and easy to set up with the Skype app As I have only had it a few hours I cant post much more? except to say that my first foray into tablet computing is fun KK

I'm still learning on how my Ipad works - but enjoying the portability very much So far I have learnt How to set up several email accounts How to find, download & delete apps you dont like How to put several apps in one folder - such as all the games in a games folder I have learnt that by double clicking the ON/OFF button you see the last areas you have been in I have learnt how to email photos but still to find out how to attach to a forum post (probably need an app?) Next Got to find me a Good easy & document writer app or an office suite of some sort Password protect program as I dont think - Ipad has auto password log in In comparison to the IPad 2 Comparing it side by side to a friends IPad 2  I found the new Ipad to have a much sharper screen resolution and  much faster at loading Apps or Web pages. At home - The web pages sometimes load quicker than my desktop PC So far I am very happy with the experience Will make more experience type updates periodically  :angel: KK

KK A good tip of mine is to find specials here http://www.giftcardsonsale.com.au/ Sometimes you get 2x$20 itunes cards for $30.  That's like giving you free credit.  If you use your credit card you pay full price!!! I've got 2 iPads in the house for the kids.  They love them and they are great for books, you can even download the kindle app and sync it with your kindle books. Regarding your password question do you want the ipad to ask you for a password when you turn it on? If so go to Settings, General, and you'll find auto-lock and under that password lock. Also above that is restrictions, you can key in a 4 digit pin to restrict some items, especially useful to do this before you give it to a child make sure you use restrictions to stop them deleting apps!!!  you can then turn it back off when you get it back (that's if they let you have it back  :rofl: ).

After looking at those on your list I just bought an Asus Zenbook 13.3".  I needed lightweight and  a smallish footprint but still wanted a standard operating system, with USB's, HDMI etc.  The trade-off I guess was no CD/DVD, and also with this one no 3G (I just use WIFI or the Iphone). Standby time is up to 10days! Fantastic resolution and the speed seems great. My only complaint is that some apps don't run / install on Win7 64bit, but copy the already installed files from another non 64bit computer seems to be a good work around.

Regarding your password question do you want the ipad to ask you for a password when you turn it on? If so go to Settings, General, and you'll find auto-lock and under that password lock.

Thanks Lacehim I know about that -so far I have chosen to not have a pass word as there is nothing critical in it With passwords - For instance - I load Crema & I am not logged in I want to have the saved passwords to be auto loaded when I type in my name I am doing good so far & only proceed to another task when I understand the last one fully KK

The iWork suite of apps are pretty good - pages is an excellent word processor. You sync it with you iCloud account to download the docs through a web browser. There's no way (that I know of) for browser password auto fill, but you can get a program called 1Password from AgileBits. You have both a desktop and an iOS version. You get the desktop one to remember all your passwords. Keep the password database on dropbox and the desktop and iOS versions can sync. Then, if you need to, you can tell 1password to open the page & auto fill the login.

Hi, The weight is quite low; about the same as an IPad, and though sometimes warm, I don't find the heat a problem at all.  The size, very thin profile and light weight was what sold me on the idea.... And whilst I'm not exactly a Microsoft supporter, going down the apple path was for me even less of an attractive option. Its been a couple of months now since the purchase, and so far I'd have to say that I'm very happy!

Have you tried turning it off and turning it on?  Double click the home button and when the list of running apps comes up across the bottom scroll to find Skype the press and hold the icon.  The icon will vibrate and a red circle will appear on the icon. Press the circle to shut down the app and then click your home key. Restart Skype the usual way. I've not had these issues with Skype but then again I choose the dark grey cover so it may be more comaptible...  :stir
