With all of the talk about rising coffee prices I wondered about trying to squeeze an extra cup or two per kg of beans.
Up to this point I have been using a LaMarzocco ridgeless double basket, 18 grams of my current roast ground to give me 25 to 30ml in 25 to 30 seconds.
Decided to drop back to 17 grams, grind a tad finer for a similar result that I described above, to be fair I thought I would run the test over a few days.
The result? Mrs DB could detect no difference in her evening cappa, my drinks of choice, AM = long black, PM = short black, could I detect a difference? you bet I could, less body, less flavour and less crema, much prefer the 18 gram shots.
As a matter of interest 1 gram of my current roast (Yirg) equals approx 8 beans, who would have thought 8 beans could have made such a difference.
So, this is one economy measure I won't be adopting.
