After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

  • Yes, yes it was
  • Perhaps you are thinking of psycho. sincerely, The speeling police For movie references, Frankenstein or Edward Scissorhands seem more appropriate
  • Sorry, I thought the speeling police didn't work Fridays
  • Ok, new blade and new roast. 600 gm COE. Looks ok to me but others will judge.

Yes exelent looking results I will wait for taste results in a few days KK
  •  KK, and thats despite stoping it a few times early on to cut a blade off and do some more adjustments. Now back to a 2 blade + rudder.
  • New blade. Not as insane. And the mega chaff from the COE beans
  • Quick update on the hybrid. I've had a concern with the tapered sides of the bean bowl/roast chamber since the first roast. The beans had a tendency to get pushed up the taper rather than tumble over the agitator. So, I popped over to KK's today to drop off some loaner tools and have a perve at his.....new kitchen . Anyway, KK produced another bowl to try along with a new agitator.  The new bowl is still tapered at the bottom but has much more vertical sides. A few swapping of bits and brackets and a tweak of the agitator and its going better than ever. I'm really happy with the way the beans move now. Cheers KK, your generosity in incredible. Oh, your kitchen kicks arse too. I made another vid. The first part is with 10 volts and the second is about 8.5 volts. I like the way it performs on either setting but 8.5 V looks better on the vid. A few photos showing the new bowl and agitator and a comparo photo showing the different profile of each bowl. http://s1174.photobucket.com/albums/r603/derrilex/roaster vid test/?action=view&current=VIDEO0029.mp4

That video looks a lot better overall in agitation and the new perforated insert looks like its keeping the beans inside nicely Let's do an update on the next roast day as a comparison of the previous set up to the new And the pleasure is all mine to help out whenever I can.
  • I was going to roast again this arvo but it got too dark and rainy. Tomorrow weather permitting I'll do 600 of terranova, which were the greens in the vid. I think its pretty good now KK. The vid is deceptive. Even on 10 V the speed is pretty good but the vid makes it look fast with the beans blurring. Agitator works well, not much catching of beans and and pretty good action. I think one could play forever with it.
  • Once the agitator is set and adjusted to your requirements it's then set for life Don't sweat on it to much, just enjoy the roasting  :thumb:
  • Looks fantastic guys.  Come on DX... How many kgs can that baby roast?  Good agitation, two heat sources..., exciting times!  :thumb:
  • I reckon 800gm would be fine but its more than I would consume ( well not really) . Question is, am I willing to try it  and risk 800 gm. Any one got some old skank beans they dont want
  • Did 650 gm of terranova today. I must say I'm not overly impressed with the results. Quite uneven to the point where I wonder if the beans are a mixed bag. I doubt it but the size difference is amazing as is the colour. I suspect its all in the agitator. I need to get it so the beans are scooped off the bottom and bought to the top. I suspect that its probably doing this action to about 50% of the beans. Back to the drawing board.
  • And then this crops up. Some of these mega beans are charcoal, some are ok but the size difference and the fact that the smaller bean is well underdone tells me something is not quite right
  • I had this hassle when I went up in volume without adequate agitation.  I fixed it by trial an erroring a bloody disasterous looking agitator but darn it if it isn't the business.  Even roasts from 400g - 1000g.  Stainless steel and copper... behold with horror:
  •  thats wild Brett. Just as mad as some of my creations. Stay tuned for more insanity :tearhair:
  • Finally, finally came up with a agitator that works. Thank Christ.
  • If it works who is complaining! :)  The most important bit though, how are the roasts in the cup?
  • I will see if I can dig up anothe Pre-used  drive shaft (fingers crossed) As this one in the photo has seen better days  :pan Let's give this design a few roasts and see how it performs  :thumb: It's all fun with trial and error KK

Mate, clearly I have got nothin' when compared to your wacky spring spinner of doom.  Is it an agitator? Is it art? Is it a cry or help??  NO... it's bloody brilliant!  :thumb: :coffee2:
  • Works like a mother Brett. The previous one worked great on a cold test with 600gms of beans but when everything was preheated the beans just got pushed around as one mass  ??? Got me stuffed.  So the spring was born. Had to heat the spring at the end to bend it. Proceeded to touch red hot spring and branded myself :head: Ahhh C'mon KK, that shaft is perfect. Many holes make light work of securing bits and pieces
  • Lacehim, I haven't tasted any with the current spring aggi yet but previous roasts have been pretty good. The first COE was excellent, the second blended with yirga was also very good. Currently going through some yirga /MM blend. So all in all I'm really happy with what the hybrid can do and now hopefully I'll get the consistency.  :thumb:
  • AM, yep Ive got some bits and pieces hanging around including this MM just done. http://s1174.photobucket.com/albums/r603/derrilex/roaster vid test/?action=view&current=VIDEO0030.mp4
  • Really happy with this one. 500 gm PNG Kimel A. 1st C @ 13.15 with TO @250 and FP @ 165. Turn FP off, drop TO to 200 and quick burp. 16 mins ramp TO back upto to 250, 2nd C @ 18.20 pulled @ 19
  • Hey that's looking better  :thumb: Great work mate!
  • Happy with that one Brett for sure :thumb:
  • I've made a few mods to my KKTO myself recently - found this adjustable turbo oven at the local store:
  • tried modifying it and my KKTO to get it all to fit in the end I just whipped the top off by unscrewing stoppers at the end of the adjustable arm and placing the lid on top of my KKTO with a silicon ring as a buffer underneath:
