After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
first roast was a beaut but the heating element kept cutting out as it registered that it had came up to temperature quite quickly (which it had) - which elongated the roast time a bit but the coffee came up really well and very evenly roasted also I'm guessing that with all those buttons to play with I ought to be able to get a 'continuous roast' - will keep you posted thought it would be cool if I could get my KKTO to fit into the existing structure of the frame of the turbo oven - but alas this was not to be despite my nest efforts might be possible with a cutting wheel and a welder to pimp it all up a bit but in the end just removing the lid (and extendible arm which is necessary for the element to engage) and popping it on top of the KKTO was the simplest and most effective result I like that I now have direct heat right where I need it (as opposed to the adapter ring that suspended the heating element above the pot on the original prototype KKTO), and the airflow seems to be very good due to much bigger vents - which can only be a good thing! watch this space! Cheers, Pat
600 gm of yirg. Happy enough but a bit concerned with some unevenness. A lot of false starts to first crack and 2nd C was barely audible so I just went on colour mainly. 1stC @ 14.20, 2nd C ( I think) @ 18 ish, pulled at around 18.30
Quick update on the hybrid. Went to Aldi today and picked up one of their halogen TO's. Gave it a try on 450 gm of MM ( all I had left). Roast times were basically identical to the element type of TO with 1st C at 16 mins and 2nd about 20 mins. The halogen cycled a lot and started about 7 mins in which is a bit of a worry but didn't do anything with the times ? The vision with the halogen is superb and beats shining a torch through the lid of the element type. Because the roaster is so shallow vision has always been good but now its awesome. Short of doing some AM type mods (removal of shield and bending the fan blades) to the halogen oven, I'm not sure what else needs to be done to the hybrid. AM has seen it in full swing and I think is suitably impressed with build quality, agitation and most of all, the quietness.
I'm drinking some MM done on the 21/6 as a SO. Fantastic, but have to grind super fine. 7.25 on the eureka (10 is zero point) where as most beans are in the 4.5 - 6 range
Just did 600 of Kuda with a few yirg chucked in to make up the numbers ( 50g). No frypan this time to observe any time difference. 1st C @ 12.45, 2nd C @16.30 pulled at 17. Over all times didnt change give or take 30 seconds but the Yirg are a bit under done compared to the kuda. They were all in at the same time and given 10 mins @ 100 for a warm up then upto 250 till 1st C.
Just did 600 of ugly Kuda Mas. Well known for producing horrible looking uneven roasts. To date, whenever I've attempted it, the results were very ordinary to look at. This time however, I reckon its the best looking ugly Kuda I've ever seen.

That looks to be a nice roast of a temperamental to roast bean The Crema on them has a funky flavour but nice drinking overall KK
Tried some 1 day old los vol today. Awesome for really fresh beans. The roasts are so much more even, progressive and predictable. So I guess, upon reflection, the agitator is the most important part of the roaster, assuming volume is right.
