After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • First car was a VW Beetle that underwent many evolutions to finally end up as a baja bug - no photos of that one as it was before the digital world Fav car so far is my current Paj.
  • Yeah - a topic I enjoy as much as coffee. Sadly, I have so many cars it's impossible to select a favorite, so I may list a few of the specials. Current pic (August 2012) of the Landau (a.k.a. Mad Max Interceptor). In it's day (1973 - 1976) it was the most expensive car ever built in Australia. Standard with a 351 and 4 luxurious bucket seats in a coupe configuration and plenty of power-assisted everything (when it works of course). Those with a keen eye will notice the bonnet does not fit correctly because it's only temp.......there is fibreglass/kevlar/carbon-fibre bonnet in for repairs - it's the one with a **very big scoop ** A LHD Stingray which is essentially kept in storage all the time for a RHD conversion one day. An iconic Mini And of course our reliable workhorse who runs around town all week filled to the brim with fresh goodness.
  • HK Monaro. Came with a  whopping 161 hi-comp motor, triple SU carbs that sucked in air through the wobbly spindles, 90% rusted out subframe and a 3 speed manual converted from column to floor shift. The front seats were re-trimmed in red velour, and would lay almost flat with the back seat to make a comfy bed.... CB radio was mounted in the glovebox. :).  Ah the memories.. search?hl=en&client=safari&gl=au&biw=320&bih=416&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=white+hk+monaro&oq=white+hk+monaro&gs_l=mobile-gws-serp.3...17500.23231.0.24228.8.8.0.0.0.0.855.2490.2-4j2j6-1.7.0...0.0...1ac.1.EiQFQHc61H8#i=8
  • I had an HK ('68) Kingswood as my first car. Cost me $900. Mind you, this was in 2002 :P, so much less impressive than the post above. 81450938_3c3ca0edf6.jpg
  • Didn't you like 3 on the tree Borat ?
  • Never thought of it this way before, but seems (only by chance) that I had a thing for 1954. First Motorcycle: 1954 BSA Bantam First Car: 1954 Sunbeam Alpine Roadster Both obtained in non running condition and resurrected back to life as my daily "commutes" at the time.
  • first car--Ford Cortina 68 model, great set of wheels until I wrapped it around a lamp post!! first bike Suzuki 250cc Savage trail bike for enduros and traffic weaving duties:):)
  • 1300cc Escort Panelvan. Owned a second one of those, with windows and curtains as well as the custom fitted mattress. Before those I drove my mother's Hillman Minx - 1600cc with 15" wheels. Went better than it looked. Favourite one was dad's Chrysler Centura, the 4.0 litre version with 4 speed on the floor. It had the most power of any car I've driven, which includes my 4.0L Falcon or my wife's 4.0L Cortina.
  • A mini of course. What else? then a Hillman Imp, Hillman Avenger, Chrysler Avenger, Volvo 240, Saab 99, Reliant Scimitar, Volvo 340, Austin Montego (very briefly only as a last resort), Audi 100, RX-7, Subaru 1800 hatch, Chrysler Newport, Oldsmobile Cutlass, Subaru 1800 Wagon, Mitsi Magna, Toyota Corolla, Holden Jackaroo, Ford Falcon, Nissan X-trail and Mitsi Triton. As for motorcycles - first was a Triumph Tiger 90 with a 5TA engine, a Bonneville 750V, a Kawa GPZ1100, Honda CBR1000, CBR 600, Kawasaki KZ650 and currently a Suzuki GS750.
  • Oh, since we are list them all now - VW beetle, peugeot 504, VW Type 3 fastback, Datsun 1600, Ford escort MkII, VW Golf, Nissan Patrol Ute,Lada Niva ( shudder), Mitsubishi L200 4x4, Mazda RX2, Proton Satria, Kia Sportage 4x4, Pajero Bikes - 2 x Suzuki 250 Aggies, Postie bike ( hasn't everyone)
  • At the ripe Ol age of 17 I bought a Kwacka z200 single and on a Victorian Learners permit, left Melbourne for a 12 month tour of Oz. Had my life savings ($85- or so) when I left Melb for Sydney. From memory the non-stop trip to Sydney took around 16 hrs, as with a headwind I was flat out at 75kmh or so. Had a pocket full of cash when I got back so I bought a Nissan MQ swb... It had a Donaldson air cleaner mounted on the roof rack and a custom chromed snorkel long before it was ever the trend it is today. I used to tow a Massey 200 Drott around on a tri-axle trailer for a while... That's 5 tonne behind a swb. BTW it was set up properly with air over hydraulic brakes, etc so safety was paramount. My first car was a fourbie and I've never been without one since... Currently have a Haflinger in the shed, to play with and next vehicle will be an Amorok Auto.... Haven't had a bike for years but I'm hearin the call.... I've just recently been looking at the BMW Serteo but my dream bike is a Moto Guzzi Stelvio and I've even planned a custom leather suit with a custom logo down the back which is a female silhouette... But 'drawn as a 'road'.... Which if you're into cars and bikes you will know the Stelvio Pass in Italy is one of the worlds top 10 'must do' drives... As is the Great Ocean Road which I've done on a Katana at triple recommended speeds.... Back in my stupid days... Sorry to waffle... This thread has brought back a few great memories...
  • Like Java Veteran, I had a BSA bantam but a 1968, 173cc in that year bought for me by my father OKM 18G. Petrol was 1 shilling and sixpence a gallon. First car was a red Morris Mini in 1970 which had more room inside than my Patrol, or so it seemed
  • I bought my first car 50/50 with my mum when I was 17.  It was an Austin Metro, which was the replacement for the Mini but it got severally hit with the ugly stick in the process.  A massive 1lt engine!  It maxed out at 82mph, in 4th gear, going down a big hill with a tail wind!   It might have been ugly, but it did have nice big windows, but they didn't help me when I traded paint with a crappy old cortina (The cortina fell apart with rust).  I got 7 people in it once, but found out the breaks didn't work at all with that weight which was fun!  In the end it got sold, but just like the mini before it, the sills killed them all so you don't see any around. austin_mini_metro.jpg My first bike was a second hand Suzuki GS500 when I was 21 and going for the whole rebel against by parents bit.  I loved it though, it was imported from the US, and in mint condition.  Did 100mph without a problem but with no fairing my neck got a bit sore. :)  That probably saved my life because I stuck to the speed limits after trying that!  The roads in the UK around where I lived are fantastic for bikes, loads of corners, and I used to love taking it out with mates for a run.  Mind you I had all the right kit on, but over here in Australia, thongs and a singlet seems to be fanastic protection from a fall. :(  Muppets! Suzuki%20GS500.jpg I still miss blowing the cobwebs off by going out for a ride.  Nothing better! I now drive a people mover, and don't own a bike.  I can't say I would feel safe riding here, folk really are scary on the road here!
  • First car: VE Valiant - loved that car First motorcycle: Yammie 125

  • My first car was an EH Holden slightly hotted up with a mild cam, carbie, mags holden_eh_2.jpg I then sold it to finance a purchase of a Bedford Van to be hotted up with an amazing paint job Unfortunately I have lost the photos but you would have been amazed at the finished job Then I went on to an Alfa Romeo Sud TI (Yes that's me as a young bloke in the photo) Attachment not found.280px-LotusElan%2B2Side.jpg While I had the Lotus it was driven on weekends and during the week I drove a 1970 Hillman Hunter It has the distinction of winning that years London to Sydney rally  ;D Then I met the future wife and sold the Lotus to drive her new Escort Ghia with RS200 specs Soon after we were traveling back and forth From Brisbane to Newcastle and Sydney so needed a good traveling car, so we got an old Mercedes formally owned by a Doctor in Toowoomba 280px-Mercedes_strichacht_1_v_sst.jpg Then went to 520I BMW 280px-1987_BMW_520i_LUX.jpg Then came a Volvo, Toyota Camry, Subaru, Honda Accord Wagon and Jazz Must have been a couple of cars vans that I cant recall in between Currently own 4 Cars Toyota Yaris, Mitsubishi Colt, Honda Jazz, Diahatsu Charade Ohh I forgot my first and only bike Honda 125 cc KK

  • Wow I just looked at this thread and the Kingswood in Richards' post is the exact same car as my first, same colour as well. Although I'm  positive my car wouldn't have lasted till 2002 as I gave it a fair hiding. My first bike was a Ducati Desmo 450 single cylinder followed by a Bonnie 750, Harley Low Rider then a few Jap bikes. I recently imported a 2011 Heritage softail from the states which should see me through.
