After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Crikey .. C-man asking the tough questions. 8) I'm not at the stage where I can identify the individual flavours in what I'm drinking .. other than the obvious sweet chocolate caramel ones. As for what kind of citrus, berry or melon flavours the little suckers deliver .. I wouldn't know .. so I cannot describe exactly what I like about a certain bean .. other than whether it appeals to me .. or not. It's the same for me when drinking a glass of wine. I can't tell what grape it is made from or what soil, acidity, and region the grapes were grown. With coffee beans .. it is basically do I like it .. and to what degree, rather than identifying the complexity .. layers, individual flavours, balance etc. I would love to be able to identify and put a name to them. I'd need to do a course with many sample tastings of single origin beans from different regions ... as well as studying blends to find out why certain beans were used to balance the blend. Maybe further down the track I can better answer that one .. only for the moment .. I can only really describe what I like .. by naming a particular bean/blend .. without being able to explain in any detail .. the contributing factors as to why I like it so much .. or, on the other hand .. what it was that I didn't like about the coffee.

Dose - 16.7g Tamp - Light+ Pour - 30 secs for 20ml Rating - 9.15/10 I'm liking how the pour starts all gloopy and drips .. prior to becoming a central uninterrupted flow 10-15 secs in. Preferring the 30 sec pour rather than the 25 sec of late.
Columbian Excelso (Roasters Choice) - single origin by mycuppa. Roasted - 3rd August Dose - 17.3g Tamp - Light+ Double fellini Pour - 30 secs for 20ml Rating - 8.3/10 Although the pour suggests the grind is about right .. it certainly lacked the body and flavour of my previous efforts using these beans in recent days. Early impressions are that Columbian Excelso may be a blending bean .. rather than a quality stand alone single origin. Previous coffees had plenty of body and strength .. but lacked interesting flavours .. which is why I thought it may be a 'blending' bean. Still early days .. so we'll see how it performs with some more tweaking to get it right. I decided to start my ratings with this cup of latte, warts and all .. so it is what it is .. and looking forward to heaps of improvement on that score. I will change the grind setting to slightly finer .. for the next installment - as the evidence suggests .. it's a clear case of Barista fail this time .. seeing previous coffees made using these beans over the last couple of days have bean much better than this one I have just made ::) I'll be back :thumb:
Even the last batch of Major Tom and Georges Premium didn't taste, or rate as well as the previous order - going back 3-4 months ago. I tend to believe that it is much more likely that the reason why they didn't rate as highly as previously, is because I hadn't found the sweet spot .. rather than the odds of both Roasters having lost their mojo at the same time .. and as a result, produced beans inferior to their usual standard. Anyone prepared to buy that? ............ didn't think so.. Moony's Coffee senses and skills are still evolving .. which is good.
