Speaking of expos I have decided to take the 11-20 for TDS2015 at the Melbourne expo centre tomorrow. I'll be shooting mainly at 20mm (equivalent field of view of a 30mm FF) and every so often I might do a few shots at 11mm (16.5mm equivalent).

i popped in for a little bit as I spent more time at the baby expo next door with the Mrs and baby. Well to sum it up its like any other expo. The multinationals taking up most of the space and the smaller retailers in a 2x3m booth. There were some demos on lighting and other photo tips and post editing. Nothing new but good for people starting out to take pictures. I was hoping to grab some Joby products but they didn't sell any on site. I took a few pics but spent most of my time waiting in line to ask a Nikon guy at the Nikon stand how much for a refurb d810. Well $300 less than the price in a shop. The lady in front of my bought a refurb d800 for $2K and another guy bought a refurb d750 for $1800. All in all it was average but I did get a free coffee from the Nikon baristas. Taste was average and sugar was needed. Pics to follow.

ok, here are a few shots. indoor lighting was mixed, some parts well lit, some parts shockingly dark. I was shooting in manual mode making adjustments to ISO, Shutter and Aperture. I thought to myself it's a good time to take full control of this camera body in a challenging environment. I did "chimp" for a while I was dialling in my settings. I took heaps of "street" type photos of people and even though I wasn't pointing a massively long telephoto lens at them they gave me dirty looks.... I do apologise that I wasn't just taking photos of cameras on display (even though I did take a few) and that I was more in their face with an ultra-wide angle rather than like a weird perv shooting from a distance with a long zoom and hood (indoors). lol FYI - The fastest aperture of the lens is f2.8. Oh, and I didn't see Canon there...

Nice! A D800 for $2k is a good price. The 750 for 100 less than new is not. Save your pennies on a new body... The one you have is more than capable. The next generation of releases will be worth waiting for!

Maybe a full frame Mirrorless with a 1000 shot battery life and a flicker free zero lag EVF. dreaming. Night peeps. Off to bed. 5am start tomorrow on site.

Sunrise photo shoot @ Altona boat ramp pier. I set up at 5:30am an awaited the sky to light up. Well there was heaps of could cover so no real sunrise but the picture still turned out very nice. Milky smooth water and moving cloud trails. I will need to go back when the weather forecast is better. Photo EXIF data: ISO100, f11, 11mm, 343sec. Shot with a Nikon D7200 and Tokina 11-20mm lens. Picture was taken in 14bit RAW.

no HDR. Single exposure. Just edited the blacks highlights and contrast. Also adjusted the white balance to correct for the slight colour tint of the ND filter. The exposure was a little off too so adjusted that a bit. These 10stop ND filters are darker than 10stops. I should have exposed longer but post can fix that. Didn't need to use a black card or GND to avoid blowing up the sky as it was cloudy and matrix metering was sufficient. Shot 14bit raw flat picture control.

As it's a Nikon thread and this was shot on a Nikon......such a glorious day here in Melbourne.......just had to take a quick photo from across the road of the place I spend all my time........didn't have time to swap lenses around or setup properly.

Got a point there FC...... too bad their core business was to make Leica camera knockoffs ( :thumb: ), and had to use Nikon glass to do so :doh: :rofl: Canons core business is consumer (and industrial) electronics where Nikon's core business is optics first, electronics/software second. In this day an age they are as good as each other and constantly leapfrog each other. But both don't come close to Sony, they are the worlds leading sensor and optics manufacturer (by sales) as they are in each and every iPhone. That is good business.

Indeed ! And on a serious note. I received my 50mm f1.4 today in the mail. ...And had intended to bring a body to the office so I wouldn't have to wait until I get home to test......and forgot! So now I have to wait until I get home to test...way to go. And the other fella in the office who also totes canon gear and usually has it with him, is away..... Oh well. They say this kind of thing builds character :laugh:

Big news here... I'm selling a D800. I'm looking for the clean HDMI out of another D750 or D810 more likely. Can't wait to see the clarity of the Nifty50 FC!

Ordinarily I wouldn't be in the office, however occasionally certain sacrifices need to be made

Leaving for HOST exhibition the day after tomorrow, and I need to get all my sheet together before exiting stage right...so putting in some time. When I leave, the slate will be clean. Re lens (now I am having a break before switching off and going home): Canon offers 3 x 50 mm lenses The f1.2 costing I think somewhere around 2 g's local pricing The f1.4 USM costing around $465.00 local, and The f1.8 STM (latest new arrival) costing around $165.00 local, and the f1.8 II (just superseded and there is still some stock) costing $145 local. All can be had for considerably (% wise) less if prepared to buy imports etc. but in real money, saving say $20.00 to $30.00 to make say a $150.00 purchase is silly...especially as you then have to wait for delivery, when you can walk into a shop and buy over the counter and have it now. Depends on individual priorities, and of course there is more difference dollar wise on the more expensive lenses than there is on the f1.8. The f1.8 is the steal of the bunch because the diff between the resulting images from it vs the f1.4 is not so great as the difference in the price. BUT....the build quality of the f1.8 is commensurate with its great (low) price and it is said that one inadvertent, light bump can result in a lens in pieces. So I have bought the f1.4 because I want a lens that is still in one piece when I travel and take it out of the bag. After all that, the difference in all the lenses as well as any differences between the canon and nikon equivalents (which are rated better in all the internet reviews) can be filed in the waste paper bin because it will all depend on the operator and what he she is doing, his/her capability, and the subjects, to get real life photographic results. I am sure you (GK & Brett) can get far better results out of my canon gear than I can ;D, meaning just like with coffee machines, there is a lot of value in the operator and to quote Brett from another thread, just cause you own a stradivarius doesn't make you a musician ! Actually, I should say that when I was in Mexico City in May I went to the Arts Centre and there happened to be a photographic exhibition on. Unfortunately I cant remember the fellows name but he was a street photographer active from before WW2 to maybe the 1970's and he toted a simple old 45 mm fixed lens 35 mm whatever camera around and took the most unbelievable photos I have ever seen. Especially the ones during the war and the various revolutions that took place in various countries. Fantastic shots of the people. But it is nice to play with the gear.... Cheers for now, A. Oh I should have said...there is one other nifty fifty for those that need to be really budget conscious. The Yongnuo 50 mm f1.8. You can buy it from someone that has stock in Sydney for $82.00 so is a relatively "local" delivery, maybe $10.00 less for an import. The reviews are interesting, especially those comparing it to the canon f1.8 STM which costs double, or the nikon for maybe a little more. For the price it could be said to be the steal of the century..... !
