Hello to all, Okay, I am a naive late starter, in south east Qld that is going into the coffee business, because it is a passion and a longing. What I am hoping to find on this forum is a "Mentor" for my mobile business. I am aware of the pitfalls (well a lot of them) and the amount of hard work I am going to have to put in and although this is daunting, it is not too scary  ???. The scary part is the actual start up and all the hoops I have to jump through(some of those hoops are flaming).  :head: I am determined for this venture to work because I want it to.... so very much. Anyhoo, if there is some kind soul that will take pity on a poor, knowledge hungry, passionate, mature age entrepreneur, my (currently exploding) mind will be so very grateful. Hi Dizzy, Im on the coast up Eumundi way, and Im actively mentoring / coaching a few coffee startups at the moment - and Id be happy to help! I moved up from Melbourne a year ago after having run my own highly acclaimed cafes there for 12yrs (top 20 melbourne coffee destinations according to beanhunter and i was in the top 100 coffee destinations in The Age Good Cafe Guide for five years in a row! good luck with your venture and feel free to PM if I can be of any further assistance! best, Pat

I am not familiar with forums as I rarely have much to say (except my worldly wisdom) so, lets just assume that I am completely clueless and tell me just how one would go about PM'ing someone here please. Hi. I'm in Northern Tasmania near Launceston. Started four years ago with a Jura Ena One Touch (convenient, but weak). Have also had a Sunbeam 6910 which I eventually got to produce decent coffees by chucking the grinder that comes with it for a Breville SmartGrinder. Now a Breville Oracle. I roast in a Behmor 1600, getting very good results. Getting upgraditis and looking at good lever machines - up to the new fancy profiling machines. I really only make one or two coffees in a session (at most twice a day).

Welcome mate!  Can you tell me... is coffee actually grown in Tasmania?  You see there is a local business here in Brisbane advertising Tasmanian coffee.  There no roast date but also no information about the provenance.  I'm not interested In stale coffee but the assertion intrigues me.  Welcome!

Jeez, isn't coffee a tropical crop? I think limited to northern Qld etc if at all in Aust. wouldn't it be? I wouldn't have thought there would be any way short of a lit & heated greenhouse to get it to grow in Tassie and that would be very expensive. That ad was probably just for Tassie roasted coffee. K Bean, been looking around your site. The Profitec 800 does look nice. Also seen that the (much more expensive - around $9000) ACS Vostok 1 group is coming soon (pre sales on some sites). Then I saw the ACS Vesuvius for under $4800 and it's interesting, but the Home Barista review didn't compare it well against the Profitec 700, but I suspect a bit of fiddling with the profiles may have changed that result.

Welcome mate!  Agreed that as far south as norther NSW would be coffee friendly but I'm happy to be wrong.  My big issue with the ACS machines is: insert Obi Wan: (he's more machine than espresso maker), but that's an argument for another thread.

Been coffee-ing for 8-10 years (honestly cannot remember haha...), have done a few years of barista work (chain and specialty coffee) in the past, love espresso but also filter brewing and roasting on my Behmor 1600. About time I introduced myself [emoji6] recognise a few avatars and usernames; over there I'm Magic Matt (don't even order magics any more but kept the user name to annoy the grumpy old men of that forum [emoji48]). I'm a Taswegian living in Sydney via Melbourne and Canberra, mostly drink espresso at home with my ECM twins (Synchronika and V-Titan), but have been getting more into manual methods lately with Trinity One and pourover (have had an aeropress since forever).
