After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
hey mate welcome to the forum ! when do you find time to drink coffee after smashing down all the good pinot that comes from your region??? Pat

Hey Matt & Simon - welcome, hope you'll enjoy it here... one thing i've noticed is that peeps really seem to respond to photography, so if you've got some favourite espresso shots or perhaps a shot of your setup, feel free to post. Once again, great to have you on board

bit like me i drank so much of the stuff as a wee tacker that i hardly touch it any more!
Thought I'd say a quick hello. Hope you're all having a good mid week coffee or two. Reasonably long time coffee drinker and occasional CF lurker. Quick history / coffee confessional: My family were originally instant drinkers who stepped up to Mokka pot and caffe kimbo packs back in the 90's. ;-) At the peak of my coffee crimes, my family gave me a 21st birthday present of a Miss Audrey (that's a colourful and plasticy version of Ms Silvia for those who have been spared). In my poor uni student ignorance I used it with no coffee grinder, no fresh coffee or useful training aside from Rancilio's manual. Needless to say the coffee produced was average at best. Audrey died a mercifully early death and I went back to mokka pot/brikka for a decade. Only been back to espresso land since about 2011. Moved with my family from Qld to Mid North Coast NSW. Started home roasting at that time due to a lack of local options and inspired by some Brisbane roasters. Now by day I'm an IT project and support worker and by weekend a social enterprise / NFP coffee fundraiser barista on a NS Appia II 2 group compact. I'm fortunate to have work pay for the decent coffee beans I order for them there and get the opportunity to batch brew plenty of different roasters. The weekend fundraiser budget is a bit tighter but am finding some tasty beans for espresso. Hope to get to know some of you.
welcome Im a mad coffee convert didnt start drinking the stuff till I was 30yrs old and began managing fine dining restaurants pretty much around the clock averaging 4hrs sleep per night so naturally coffee was the only affordable legal way to stay awake since then ive * managed the first fully owned italian coffee franchise store in australia (segafredo zanetti espresso in hardware lane) * multi site managed and troubleshooted for a bunch of coffee stores, restaurants, and bars for the ubiquitous Salvatore (the one and only) * owned my own highly acclaimed cafes in melbourne for 12 years * written for numerous industry publications * now im consultation to cafes and producing my own (non coffee) range of products for cafes * and im studying my cert 4 in TAE to become a hospitality trainer having moved to SEQ from melbs last year! I still roast my own on a couple of bemore plus, and I just did a coffee catering job last weekend using my own gear for a local tennis club! greetings and welcome from patrick aka askthecoffeeguy!
Hello, I live in Miami, Florida, USA and I love coffee. After many years of drinking the regular coffee made in an italian espresso moka device, I asked myself, "Why can't I make coffee as good as in a Café, at home?". Well, I began with a DeLonghi bottom of the line machine, and from the first try, my coffee was incredibly better than the dark beverage I used to drink. Then, things got complicated. I upgraded to Gaggia Classic and still grind my coffee with a Capresso grinder that I bought with the DeLonghi. I have one latte in the morning and a cappucino in the evening, and that was my problem, the milk didn't look as good as the coffee by itself was. I learned about single boiler, heat exchanger and double boiler. Now I have a Baratza Sette 270 and the Lelit PL60PLUST, model Diana with 2 boilers and 2 pumps. Sounds great, does it?. Well not so fast, in United States we have 117Volts 15Amp household electrical outlets and in order to cope with the power of the 2-1300W heating elements of the Diana, the current changes from one element to the other at the rate of 4 seconds at a time. Besides being happy to say hello to this wonderful forum, I'm looking for some input about this matter. I would like to know if I can override the PID and connect the steam boiler directly to a different outlet so that it can be on all the time with the logical limits of the thermostat of the heating element. All this is just about to be able to brew and steam at the same time without seeing the steam power going to 0.4 bar. The latte that I make is really good, (I use Rwandan Dark Roast Hole Bean Coffee) and makes my life very happy, but the steam matter annoys me a lot. Thank you for your welcome to your forum. Beltrán

It's really great to see should here Michael. We've gained a few members over the last few weeks so thanks or hopping over with us. I use the Tapatalk app to post. If you don't have it try it out. I hope you're loving your Profitec Pro 500. Cheers Paul Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Welcome Michael and Beltrán! (Good choice with the Profitec Michael! I bought one from Paul also and it has far exceeded my expectations for sure!) Great to have you, don't be shy and post away! And yeah I use Tapatalk, really good, a few little kinks here and there but easy enough to use. Beltrán maybe post your question in a thread of its own in one of the coffee topics, just so people will see it and hopefully try and help out Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk

Hi All, I'm new I started a thread labelled "New HX machine + grinder - ideally transportable" as I thought there was too much content for this thread. Look forward to being part of the club!
Better to get good reflective answers then stupid ones
Thanks KK. On that note, would you care to comment on the separate thread I started called "New HX machine + grinder - ideally transportable"? I would greatly appreciate any useful thoughts and feedback. TB
Hi coffee people, I'm a newby Iv been trying to make good coffee at home for a while now but still just an enthusiastic amateur. I worked in kitchens for 20 years so I got to drink a fair bit of coffee... Now I'm an architectural draftsman in an office with a pod machine :-[ My set up at home is Lelit pl41 plus t and a Fiorenzato f5 I'm keen to upgrade to hx machine....
Hello Mrh and welcome. I love the F5! I haven't moved mine on despite the fact I on,y use it twice a year now. All the benefits of a superjolly without the price tag!! Welcome... lots of great HX machines out there including my favourite the Diadema Unico Splendor! Start a thread or join an existing one... and welcome!
Welcome Mrh! Yeah pods.. I've actually managed to squeeze a semidecent result (relatively speaking, relative to the usual pod extractions..) on a pod machine when on a Tassie devil scientific expedition in Tasmania. Coffee felt incredibly necessary for those grueling days haha, the normal espresso button was usually far too much volume liquid for the mere 7g or so in each pod.. I used two pods consecutively, and pushed I think the middle extraction button for the first, and the shortest extraction button possible for the second, both into the same cup, was the best I could squeeze out of what we had haha. Anyways enough about that! Enjoy the forums!
Thanks for your welcomes guys, Thanks kbean for the buyers guide, it is nice and concise with many questions answered. Im trying to weigh up just how much better a shot I can get from an hx. When I get my act together, I'm pretty happy with the double shots from the pl41plus Possibly I just need an E61 group head to look at!
I'm glad you like it I was in the same position many years back. I had a Silvia and was looking at a first HX. I asked a retailer "will I notice a big difference between a PID'ed Siliva and an HX." He replied "if you have to ask that, you haven't experienced one." At the time I thought that seemed a little salesy but when I got hold of my HX I quickly understood. "Driving" an HX machine is an experience. Single boiler:HX is like small hatchback:big V8. Cheers Paul Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
