Took a big chunk out and had to keep going to get rid off it. Left me with not much meat around the stud. Thems the breaks I guess.  :D but you can see how skinny it is down at the PF

Ok, some trial stuff for Brett. He may love the shape of the knob or hate it. Unbelievable how the resin worked out. Very cool with the clear voids. The little buttons could have done with more colour but thems the breaks. If they fit I can always do them again.

Just hope they fit. Once cut off the blank more machining is out of the question. I can play around with different orings though to reduce the OD :thumb:

Well, news just in... They fit... perfectly!  Absolutely brilliant workmanship!!!  The picture is here reply 21: http://www.bestcafes.com.au/forum/espresso-machines/diadema-junior-extra-pid-dual-boiler/new/#new I can't recommend Alex's work highly enough!  I was asked by a mate the other night if I got a discount for waxing lyrical but I can tell you I don't.  Not only that, but I've asked for an invoice and a receipt!  Cash deal... forget it... it's not worth the artists time when they are starting out.  My wife is in the hand-made jewelery game and if she makes 10% she can cover postage and on her next order of raw materials and some tool wear and tear (her birthdays, christmas and every time I book a concert on our anniversary covers most of the rest).  That is it!  Artisans like these are a dying breed and they aren't in it for the money.  They are in it becasue they want to leave a legacy and becasue their creative brains won't let them sleep if they stop.  So raise ya coffee cups to the DX's, AM's and KK's of this world!  They have a far smaller market niche than the likes of the wonderful Greg Pullman yet they aspire to the same level of quality and ingenuity however with only their weekends to practice their crafts!

Thought I better do some knobs for my 99. This is the hot water. Just have to turn up a plug for the end. Just starting on the steam now.

A bit off topic here, but see the curved tops of those baskets, Is there anyway to flatten one?  I have a nice big deep almost triple basket that fits the GH but that ridge just sticks up a fraction too high to go into the Group head. Tap around in a circle with a hammer and anvil?

The round rolled edge is for strength and to have a reliable seal under pressure Please note that the basket has two things to worry about if tampered with They are placed under pressure and heat Those two forces together will find a weakness quickly I recommend that you should NOT tamper with it KK

As per KK, don't try to mod the filter basket. What espresso machine do you use? If it uses a rubber group head seal, you might be able to obtain a thinner one.

being a single floor basket, would it still have too much pressure?

Doesn't matter what the basket depth is, the pressure will be the same KK

I wasn't too fussed with the previous knobs I did for the BZ so I knocked some more. Bigger one for steam and smaller one for hot water. Amazingly huge difference in ease of use over the originals which had to be used with the finger tips. The larger knobs can be used with the palm ( :rofl: :rofl:) Truth is, I  5 mm'ed myself. I measured 42 and in reality it was 47. Anyway, they work great and I'm happy with the colours. My machine looks like it belongs in the madi gras now :D

Its not that bright in real life. The flash plays tricks. It is, unfortunately, that dirty. My fingers all over it playing with knobs
