After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Another free app find I have tried approx 20 different planner diary apps and none were suitable Today I found a very good one It's called Opus Domini Main features are It a 3 in one It looks and feels like a real paper diary It has reminder alarms KK
An update As a first time owner and user on the tablet type device I have found it to be very useful for the general purpose day to day stuff For example 1) Accessing email form all accounts is a breeze 2) Looking up recipes on the fly 3) Chat and Forum activity is easy 4) Anything internet related is fast and easy Some things I haven't figured out yet are- How to insert an image found on the internet to a forum post Same applies to attaching images from the hard drive ( but I am sure that this cant be done) How do I embed a video from You Tube as the app does not show a link to copy & use KK
KK, to save an image on the web, tap it and select "save image" - that will place it in your camera roll, if you try to use the 'choose file' option to attach it it will crash the browser, so you have to host the image somewhere and link an embedded version, eg I grabbed this image off another page, saved it, uploaded it to Smugmug, my photogallery and shared it by selecting the embeddable forum version. Then copied to this page, YouTube embed, open YouTube app, find video, click on share button, copy to message and then copy link, click on video embed button here and paste in copied link. (Of course you can't see it on the iPad because YT still uses lame flash instead of proper html5! Edit by KK Added link for tablet users http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=-DdfLtOrBPU [embed=425,349]
Yes I had a feeling that was the case for the image link scenario And its to much trouble for me (or I am to lazy) to upload an image to a server then do it again for a forum post I like the choose image location link method best - Apple are you reading this :'( I will give the you tube method a try :thumb: KK
OK one other query How do I play music with non apple files I normaly use a lossless file format like FLAC or WAV and don't want them converted to Apple format just to,play them on the iPad For this reason I have no music files on my iPad How do I do this ?
KK, my dad does this on his iPod, will ask if he knows how to do in iPad but pretty sure there is an option you can tick to tell iTunes not to compress any Audio...
Kk try aceplayer on iTunes. It's free at the moment. Plays all video and audio via streaming or downloaded to the iPad. Also check out google chrome for ios. I'm using it now! Excellent! Especially the syncd bookmarks!

Thans Lacehim I am posting this on Chrome for iPad And have also downloaded Aceplayer - they say it's full featured and free for several days So I suppose I can give it a go KK

I wonder what that is for? I don't find it any easier to type. Good trick nontheless.
Another I found recently and really like is the double tap on home button or multi finger upward swipe from bottom of screen to display taskbar so you can switch or close apps
Another update and most users may already know of this feature If one wants to do a screen capture on IPad, iPhone, ect it's very simple It works on a two button principle Press the On/Off button simultaneously with the sleep button and a screen capture is taken and stored on your camera roll KK
KK, I guess you mean the "home" button and the power off button. Yes I used that trick for my website www.myyoungones.net Also did you know that on the Safari keyboard if you press and hold the .com button a pop appears with common endings to select, like .au Loads of hidden little tweaks on these phones/ipads that we know nothing about!
A quick update In the past one could not upload a photo from iPad ( stored in the photo app ) to a forum like Crema Recent OSI updates one only this morning OS 6.3 seems to have activated access from browsers via the upload section in Crema forum The browsers I have seen access allowed is Safari and Mercury Pro ( others may also be OK ) Now this is a test trial photo upload using the feature outlined above Attachment not found.
Thanks for the tip KK, I missed this feature, and I'm glad it's now implemented. The idevices just get better and better. I've skipped a few updates so I'll give this one a go. PS, it's iOS
I was previously struggling to post an 'award' on the "Show me your best god-shot" thread, which is basically a picture on my iPad camera roll, (saved from web)... But those last couple of awards were pics posted straight from my camera roll (photo album) via the link on the thread post page... I just figured I stumbled across the right sequence, I didn't realise it was an iOS upgrade... :curious Nonetheless, pic links can certainly be posted with an iPad (2) via Tapatalk...
As an aside I just got my iPhone 5 a couple of weeks ago and the charger failed so I was in the Carindale Apple shop today to replace it and took the opportunity to have a good play on the Mini-iPad. I have the iPad 2 and the Mini's screen is better and clearer and nicer and so shiny and glossy... I want one! :cry Talk about a boys toy shop... B&O Portable speaker docks.... $800-, $1,200, $1,500-... Take your pick... Headphones by Bowers & Wilkens that just float you away to another dimension... Wow, WOW, WOW!.... First visit and I was shell shocked, a simply stunning array of don't need- but must have- gizmos and gadgets... What a buzz! I highly recommend a visit... Just don't blame me for the flogging your credit cards gonna get....
Ol Grumpy We went to the Carindale Apple store and walked out with an Apple Mini - A gift for the future son inlaw With regards to photo uploads direct to a forum In the past one had to link via online storage sites like photo bucket or use apps like Tapatalk Tapatalk is still great for phones because the screen is small but on an iPad, it's vewing screen is like a small computer so direct uploads to forums should have been mandatory fom the start Anyway I am glad that its been implemented making an already great product to a fantastic one KK
On this issue of Wi-Fi/3G version... I prefer to use the Wi-fi- period. BUT I use the iPad on site for taking photos in reports, defects, supplier orders, looking up say a toilet offset on a manufacturers website, a product photo to show a client, etc, etc etc and shortly Full multi - page quotes including photos and a before/after sketch diagrams.. (A subscription app called FormMobi). I get a much higher response rate to my quotes- the quicker they are delivered and for that reason alone the ability to turn on "data" and flick off an email or ten instantly is worth its weight in gold. I wouldn't have a device without either Wi-fi or 3/4G period. For my application 3G what makes the iPad so much more flexible and valuable.
@KK Ha, ha, it's very hard to leave that store without just one new 'toy'... Be careful now.... I predict a case of iPad Mini Envy might just overcome you... That little beauty is very alluring and desirable.... I've found the iPad to be 'Brilliant' and somehow that Mini is just 'better'...
OG, the iPad and the iPad mini both have retina display I think. The old iPad2 did not. My little ones have iPad3's and you can see the difference in the screen. The mini is nice, but I just can't justify having an iphone4, and a mini for myself, but I like my tech too so I might just have to give in!
I think if Apple release a 'retina' mini ipad in the 3rd quarter... I'll buy two. We still have our orig iPad's from release day, the kids use them far more than we do these days. We thrash our iPhone 5's, but it would be nice sometimes to have the larger screen, for editing images and doing some web stuff...
Aaaaah Yes.... "Resistance is Futile".... Lol Memories of 'The Borg Collective' :eek Speaking of clever tech... Anyone seen or got hold of a 'Pebble' watch yet? And how bout the iWatch that's been whispered about through keyholes.... And behind big locked steel doors... At least until one gets 'found' in some swanky New York night club....
Anybody have issues with wifi connection dropping out frequently ? Having had an ipad3 for some time and working happily, it was changed at the "Genius Bar" because of a erratic "home" button. THe replacement ipad refuses to often connect to Wifi and when it does connect , its range is poor and often drops out. nothing changed , except the replacement ipad. ?? Genius bar have done various factory resets, etc , ( and it seems to work on the shop Wifi, but didnt try for long) There is a lot of traffic on tech forums about ipad wifi issues since OS6.X upgrade, but no apparent golden bullet solution as yet.?? Very frustrating !
