What coffee am I drinking at the moment?

I am actually no drinking any coffee at the moment I am on an elimination diet because of intestinal problems It is not easy........damm headaches  too

My sympathees C man. A number of my customers at the cafe have gone off milk due to the same reasons or simply to lose weight. The general rise in obesity and sedentary lifestyles is a main factor for the change to black coffee, tea, or abstinence altogether. Some of them however have converted to lighter bodied brews. I had the Yirgacheffe Gelena Abaya through the Curtis Gold Cup machine. The converts as well as myself go wow at the uplifting florals and fruity berries on the palate. Heaven in a cup. And no heaviness. Today and yesterday we ran out of carafes and cups. Improvisation came in the form of milk jugs and piccolo cups.

The last couple of lots of beans I have bought were sold as Guatemala SHB, they were velvety smooth with a very distinct chocolate note. Does coffee have notes? I am more used to talking perfume and perfume has notes  ::). I just popped out and thought I would have a change and grabbed some that were sold as Costa Rica, Costa Rica what I have no idea  :-|.

I just finished a batch of Harrar Mocha and this arvo in going to start my batch of Ipanema Espresso from The Coffee Co. Last time I had this it was beautifully sweet, creamy with notes of chocolate. Hopefully this batch will be the same. It's 9 days post roast. If it's good it won't last long.

Hi Sue. I'm assuming you're drinking single origins and not blends?

I am GeekKopi. The coffee shop/cafe I get my beans from only has 7 different beans, all are single origin except their house blend they have called an Italian blend which I wasn't keen on. I really, really need to find somewhere else to buy beans from, they are very limited and the people that work there are as rude as ****.

As a suggestion possibly try a balanced blend for a straight up espresso. The single origins might be too 'bright'/acidic for you to drink black. Are the beans you get a lighter roast? I've been getting my roasted beans from "the coffee company". They are in Melbourne but they deliver at very reasonable prices. Their beans range from $28-$30 per kilo for blends and single origins. Can't go wrong and they roast fresh everyday with high turnover. I've tried all the fancier roasting houses down my way such as Axil, 7seeds and the like but they roast too light and they are too acidic for my taste.

Hi Lwowiak I've seen their site and wasn't sure on how their beans were. Which blend do you recommend for someone that likes a darker more traditional roast? Ron

They are a darker roast GeekKopi. I made a start looking at places online and then got interrupted  ^-^. Does anyone know who takes PayPal? It is a bit easier for me  :P. I was browsing My Cuppa when I was interrupted  :coffee2:.

MyCuppa does PayPal Sue. There are others as well but with buying browns, I'd recommend choosing someone closest to you and/or can deliver in the shortest time. I believe MyCuppa fulfills both criteria. I haven't purchased beans from them but have dealt with them on another product.

Have a read of the newsletters on his website, it will provide an enjoyable (and educational) insight into the realm of coffee.

I just pulled an Ipanema. Left the grinder as it was. Close but no cigar. Need to make it a tad coarser. The OPV was singing a bit too much. I cut the shot early.

I too am a very happy customer and despite being a home-roaster I order with Jeff every holidays to be sure I don't rest on my laurels as an amateur roaster.  I've also had the very occaisional treat from Cosmorex which have been simply stunning.  We're spoiled for choice really!

Mine were just delivered with a roast date of 31/05 so I am assuming they will be good to go in a couple of days which works out well because I have a couple of days left with the beans I am currently using. I was going to ask what you bought but I see you bought the Espresso blend .

Morning Sue, Why not try a coffee made with them today? do the same over the next few days, see if you can pick changes in characteristics, for better or worse as they age.

That sounds like a plan you two  . I have just made a cuppa, after having to make an emergency run to school to pick up a sick 16 year old, but next one I will use the Suuweet beans  ;D.
